Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota welcomes Derek Czywczynski, OD, to the optometry teams at the Sanford International Falls Eye Center & Optical and at the Sanford Baudette Eye Center.

Dr. Czywczynski (pronounced si-ZIN-skhee), nicknamed “Dr. C”, received his undergraduate from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. He earned his Doctor of Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, CA, in 2009. During his collegiate years, Dr. C participated in many optometric internships at the Southern California College of Optometry’s Eye Care Center; the Wellish Vision Institute in Las Vegas, NV; the VA Amarillo in Amarillo, TX; and the Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Sacaton, AZ.

Prior to joining Sanford Health, Dr. C practiced optometry for 11 years at several locations including: Eyes of Bismarck, PLLC, in Bismarck, ND; at Stanton Optical, Mejor Vision and Professional Eye Care in Omaha, NE; at Beulah Vision in Beulah, ND; and at Hazen Family Eyecare in Hazen, ND.

Dr. C is available by appointment at both International Falls and Baudette eye center locations providing eye care for every member of the family including contact lens prescriptions, treatment and management of eye diseases, routine family eye care, pediatric eye care and walk-in care for urgent eye needs.

“Practicing rural eye care for the last nine years, I’ve really come to value the varied and personalized care that I am able to provide my patients,” said Dr. C. “In one day, I can help grandpa manage his cataracts, get mom new contacts and fit little Johnny with his first pair of glasses. You really get to know and care for the entire family.”

New to Minnesota, Dr. C and his family are excited to explore and get to know the tight-knit northern MN community. An outdoorsman at heart, he is also looking forward to indulging in his passions for camping, boating, fishing and golfing.

“As a parent with three young children of my own, I understand that sometimes it can be challenging to get them to the doctor, especially if they are scared,” said Dr. C. “I do my best to alleviate any fears children, and even adult patients, may have to ensure they are able to get the eye care they need.”
