National Day of Prayer gathering May 2

BEMIDJI-There will be a gathering in honor of the National Day of Prayer from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, at the corner of Sixth Street and Beltrami Avenue on the Courthouse Lawn staging area.

First Lutheran annual Rummage Sale

BEMIDJI-First Lutheran Church will host its 11th annual Rummage Sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at the church, 900 Bemidji Ave.

There will be half-priced and $1 bags of clothes. They will begin accepting items for sale starting Wednesday, May 1. Drop off times are as follows: from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1; from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 2; and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 3. Hands of Action International event May 9

BEMIDJI-The community is invited to The Rescue 1 Event to learn more about Ugandan Missions and Child Sponsorship opportunities through Hands of Action International.

The event will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 5405 Hart Lane NW. There will be a Baked Potato Bar, a pop-up gift shop filled with local and international goods, and a presentation including pictures and stories about the Hand of Action ministry and schools in Uganda. Child sponsorship information will be available.

Tickets are $10 and are available through www.handsofactioninternational.org . The event is for ages 12 and older, due to sensitive subject matter on child trafficking and child marriage. For questions, email Jenn at handsofactionintl@gmail.com .

Bethel Lutheran Church to hold walleye fish fry

BEMIDJI-The public is invited to a Red Lake walleye fish fry at Bethel Lutheran Church from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, at the church, 5232 Irvine Avenue NW. The meal includes walleye, potatoes, beans, coleslaw, bun, beverage and dessert. Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Take out meals also available.

Wycliffe dinner banquet to be held April 27

BEMIDJI-The Bemidji community is invited to a Wycliffe Associates banquet at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Hampton Inn, 1019 Paul Bunyan Drive S.

Banquet guests will hear how God is working amid civil unrest, tribal wars, spiritual warfare and persecution against Christians to advance Bible translation faster than ever before, a release said. Wycliffe's initiative, Tablets for National Translators, is working to load tablets with Bible translation tools and other applications for those who live in high-risk areas. They anticipate that in 2019 more Bible translations will be launched in new languages than ever before. The organization has set a goal of placing 7,800 computer tablets, at a cost of $300 each, in the hands of translators to launch 600 new Bible translations this year.

Spring Salad Luncheon in Laporte

LAPORTE-Trinity Lutheran Church of Laporte will be hosting its annual Spring Salad Luncheon at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4.

The program will feature Ren Fugelstad, a potter from North Dakota. He will do a visual demonstration of man's relationship with God through the art of pottery. A free-will offering will be collected. Come and enjoy an inspiring program and delicious salads.
