Russell to speak at BCFS

BEMIDJI-Headwaters Unitarian Universalist Fellowship welcomes poet Carol Ann Russell at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 21, at the Bemidji Community Food Shelf, 1260 Exchange Ave. SE.

Russell will read several of her own poems which celebrate the natural and pagan roots of Easter as well as celebrate the work of two of our greatest poets who have passed away this year: American poet Mary Oliver and the Irish poet and Celtic philosopher John O'Donohue. This Sunday's musical guest is Prabin Lama. The community is invited to attend and to stay for coffee, refreshments and conversation following the service.

Russell is a professor of English at BSU where she teaches contemporary literature, women's literature and creative writing. Russell has published four books of poetry, "The Red Envelope," "Feast," "Silver Dollar," "Gypsy Taxi" and three chapbooks, "The Tao of Woman," "Italia" and "Without Reservation." She recently was awarded the Region 2 Arts Council Distinguished Artist grant.

Easter breakfast and children's egg hunt


BEMIDJI-There will be a breakfast served at 9:45 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 21, at Bemidji Baptist Church, 2130 Paul Bunyan Drive SE. A children's Easter egg hunt will follow the 11 a.m. worship service. These are free events. For more information, call (218) 751-9311.

Easter services at Faith Baptist Church

BEMIDJI-Faith Baptist Church will hold Easter services on Sunday, April 21, including an early service at 8 a.m. (with communion), a home-cooked breakfast at 8:45 a.m., Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and morning worship at 11 a.m. There will not be an evening service. Bethel to hold walleye fish fry

BEMIDJI-The public is invited to a Red Lake walleye fish fry at Bethel Lutheran Church from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, at the church, 5232 Irvine Avenue NW. The meal includes walleye, potatoes, beans, coleslaw, bun, beverage and dessert. Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Take out meals also available.

Wycliffe dinner banquet on April 27

BEMIDJI-The Bemidji community is invited to a Wycliffe Associates banquet at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Hampton Inn, 1019 Paul Bunyan Drive S.

Banquet guests will hear how God is working amid civil unrest, tribal wars, spiritual warfare and persecution against Christians to advance Bible translation faster than ever before, a release said. Wycliffe's initiative, Tablets for National Translators, is working to load tablets with Bible translation tools and other applications for those who live in high-risk areas. They anticipate that in 2019 more Bible translations will be launched in new languages than ever before. The organization has set a goal of placing 7,800 computer tablets, at a cost of $300 each, in the hands of translators to launch 600 new Bible translations this year.

Ministry of Caring conference April 25

BEMIDJI-The Ministry of Caring Caregivers conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, at the Hampton Inn & Suites, 1019 Paul Bunyan Drive S. The keynote speaker will be Steve Zvonar, board certified health coach and chiropractic doctor focused on functional medicine, presenting 'Engaging in the Power of Emotion to Live a Purposeful Life.'

During this day-long conference, Zvonar will lead an interactive program to explore the positive side of four key emotions: anger, sadness, fear and happiness.

Registration fees are: $90 before April 23 then price goes up to $100, $35 for students. Fee includes snacks, lunch and full-day presentation designed to meet state Board of Nursing Continuing Education requirements for 6.5 CEUs. To register, call Cheryl Yarnott at (218) 214-0805.
