CosplayCon event set for Aug. 27 at Bemidji library

BEMIDJI — The Bemidji Public Library is partnering with Paul Bunyan Communications and GigaZone Gaming to bring CosplayCon: The Art of Cosplay in Minnesota, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the library, 509 America Ave. NW.

Cosplay is a creative performance art where participants of all ages create and wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character from books, video games and movies, a release said.

"Cosplayers from all over Minnesota will be at the Bemidji Public Library in costume throughout the day for an exciting day of panel discussions, question and answer sessions, mini-games, information booths from GigaZone Gaming and more," the release said.

Participants are invited to dress up as their favorite characters and come down to the library to take photos with cosplayers and learn all about this art form that is for everyone regardless of age, background or ability, the release said.

Schedule of events:

  • 10 a.m. Opening introductions 
  • 10:30 a.m. Cosplay presentations 
    • Getting started/who should I be? 
    • Designing the look and accessories 
    • What materials? 
    • Crafting and sewing a costume  
  • Noon lunch and photo ops 
  • 2 p.m. Cosplay Q&A and panel discussion
