BMS students win at Mathcounts Regional Math competition

The 2020 Mathcounts Regional Math competition was held at Northland Community College in Thief River Falls on Feb. 7. A total of eight teams competed this year. Bemidji Middle School placed first among large schools and Crookston High School placed second.

The team from Bemidji Middle School, coached by Rebecca Rub, won first overall and will represent this area at state. Individuals going to state on the BMS team are Nick Rutio, Moses Son, Will Termont and Alexander DeClusin, a release said.

The top ten individuals receiving trophies are: Emma Gunderson from Crookston High School; Alexander DeClusin from Bemidji Middle School; Will Termont from Bemidji Middle School; Nick Rautio from Bemidji Middle School ; Moses Son from Bemidji Middle School; Ray McMillin from Roseau Community High School; Bruce Carter from Franklin Middle School; Nathan Johanneck from Crookston High School; Hannah Bjorgaard from Marshall County Central; and Isabelle Smith from Crookston High School.

The regional winners go to compete at state in Plymouth on March 13 and 14. State winners get a trip to nationals in Florida in May.
