Allen Bjelland was recently named driver of the year of the Disabled American Veterans Northwest Transportation Program.

"As the Regional Coordinator for the DAV Northwest Transportation Program, I have selected Allen Bjelland for the driver of the year award. Allen has been driving the Bemidji DAV van for the last nine years," said Daniel Wood, DAV northwest transportation dispatcher. "A Vietnam veteran himself and an active lifetime member of DAV Chapter No. 7, Bjelland has always stepped up to help whenever he was needed. His professionalism and courtesy to the veterans are one of his finest assets."

In addition to driving, Allen volunteers his time to maintain and service the vehicle so it is always ready to go for the veterans.

"Bjelland has a 'can always do' attitude which has helped the Bemidji program to grow into the first-class operation it is today," Wood said.

Our newsroom sometimes reports stories under the byline "Pioneer Staff Report." This byline is used when reporters rewrite basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as an email or press release that requires little or no reporting.

Other times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
