A group of 16 Beltrami County 4-H'ers participated in the Minnesota 4-H State Horse show held Sept. 13-16. This year, 634 youth from across the state participated in the annual event at the Minnesota State Fair.

The 4-H’ers demonstrate their skills and knowledge in hippology (showing knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry), horse judging (study of an animal, measuring it against an accepted ideal), horse training and achievement, speech and demonstrations about interest in horses or the horse industry, showmanship and drill team skills, a release said.

The following youth were members of the Beltrami delegation:

Drill Team-Freestyle, won third place in the state for 6-12 rider team: Isabella Anderson, Della Branham, Chloe Cook, Kenna Cook, Laura Davis, Riley Dreher, Meleah Grundmeier, Emma Mutnansky, Paige Wickum and Hallie Winters.

Kenna Cook, was the Grand Entry Rider, earning first place in poles, second place in jumping figure eight, fourth place in barrels and eight place in key race.

Alexa Eklund earned third place in barrels, fifth in western horsemanship and seventh in poles. She also competed in western showmanship, hunt seat equitation and pony hunt seat pleasure.

Nolan Juelson competed in trail, western showmanship, western pleasure, western horsemanship, hunt seat pleasure and hunt seat equitation.

Kallen Littler earned third place in poles, tenth place in key race and competed in barrels and jumping figure eight.

Emma Mutnansky earned second place in western showmanship, second place in western pleasure, third place in hunt seat equitation and third place in trail and competed in barrels.

Madison Savard earned third place in barrels, seventh in key race and competed in poles and jumping figure eight.

Jamilee Schocker earned fourth in hunt seat pleasure, fourth in western showmanship, sixth in western pleasure and competed in western horsemanship and trail.

Jed Schussman earned first place in poles, first place in jumping figure eight, first place in key race and competed in barrels.
