Thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Bemidji as the Night We Light parade set off on Friday evening, launching the city into the holiday season.
City residential refuse customers who are normally picked up on Thursday, Nov. 24, will be picked up on Friday, Nov. 25, because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Bemidji's 26th annual First City of Lights celebration kicks off on Friday, Nov. 25, launching the community into the holiday season with a variety of festive events and activities.

The Bemidji community received new Holmatro rescue tools thanks to the collaboration of the Bemidji Firefighter’s Relief Association and a $20,000 grant from State Farm.
On Wednesday, Nov. 2, Peterson and Otter Tail Power Company employees began assembling Paul Bunyan’s Christmas Tree in Paul Bunyan Park. The tree marks the start of the set-up process and the sparkling lights will contribute to the half a million lights downtown Bemidji will soon be blanketed in.
Bemidji First Assembly of God will host its second annual Shine Light 'Trunk N' Treat' event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, in the church parking lot, 1015 Fourth St. SE.
