GRAND FORKS -- Payless ShoeSource will close all U.S. stores this year, including several in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Between March and May, the discount shoe store will close more than 2,000 locations, according to a Payless spokesperson. The company began liquidation sales at its stores on Sunday.

North Dakota locations set for closure include the Columbia Mall location in Grand Forks and the West Acres location in Fargo.

The Payless locations in Shopko Hometown stores also will close, including a location in Valley City, N.D. Shopko also recently announced it would close hundreds of stores, including locations in North Dakota and Minnesota.

“We expect all stores to remain open until at least the end of March, and the majority will remain open until May,” the Payless spokesperson said in a statement to Forum News Service.

Payless previously had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017 and at that time closed almost 700 stores.
