Bemidji native Roy C. Booth announced that the English-speaking theater troupe Ostensibles e.V. from Osnabrueck, Germany, will producing his award-winning "Cafe à la Ionesco" for three performances in June as part of its annual One-Act Festival.

The troupe's origins can be traced back to British soldiers stationed in Osnabrueck following World War II, who organized themselves in a theater club that in the end was called Osnabrueck Amateur Dramatic Society. In 2008, all soldiers were withdrawn from Osnabrueck and the barracks were closed, but a few civilians already attached to the group took it upon themselves to keep English-speaking theater alive in their town, so the Ostensibles were formed.

The comedy is set in an Ionesco-themed café where the waiter has identity problems, the calamari is far, far too fresh, and the presentation of the bill is often far more than what one bargains for, especially if you are on a date.

The play debuted in Beaux Arts Ballroom at Bemidji State University in 1999 and has since been performed numerous times, including in Poland. The production will be Booth's third in Germany. Booth is the author of 49 published plays, among other works. He is the owner/manager of Roy's Comics and Games of Downtown Bemidji.
