Bemidji Medical Equipment Inc., a wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary of North Country Health Services, donated a total of $15,000 to 13 area non-profits in December.

Each year, the board of directors of North Country Health Services, with the input of the management of Bemidji Medical Equipment, determines where the pre-tax donations will be given. This marks the 19th straight year that donations have been made.

This year's gifts went to 4-H, Beltrami County Sheriff, Bemidji Community Food Shelf, Paul Bunyan Senior Activity Center, Fishing Has No Boundaries, Inc., Headwaters Science Center, Ours to Serve House of Hospitality, Kinship North, March of Dimes, Northern Minnesota Regional Science Fair, Relay for Life, Paul Bunyan Transit and United Way.

"Giving back is what we do every day at BME," said Gary Johnson, manager of Bemidji Medical Equipment. "Our employees are a part of this community and are happy to be able to serve their neighbors."

Bemidji Medical Equipment was established in 1986 to meet the medical equipment needs of patients in their homes across the North Country. Its most recent venture has been in the patient lift business.
