Sanford Bemidji is excited to announce Karla Eischens as vice president of operations for Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota, following the recent retirement of Joy Johnson.
In her new role with Sanford, Karla will provide oversight and accountability for all operations within the Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota region balancing long-term projects and community partnerships with the day-to-day needs of its clinics and hospitals.
With over 25 years of experience, Karla first began her career working as a nursing assistant at Beltrami Nursing Home while she attended BSU. Then, she moved to the cities for pharmacy school while also working at the Veteran’s Administration Center. After earning her Bachelor’s of Science in pharmacy from the University of Minnesota, she worked in several positions in retail, infusion and inpatient pharmacy as well as operations management for Progressive Health Care.
Briefly joining North Country Hospital from 2000-2004 as a staff pharmacist, she rejoined Sanford Health in 2009 as an inpatient pharmacist. In 2013, Karla was promoted to director of pharmacy for the region.
Providing oversight of inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services, in her new role she brought pharmacy operations under one management team and opened a home infusion pharmacy within the Joe Lueken Cancer Center. She also opened the Blackduck pharmacy, provided oversight of the regional 340B drug pricing program and guided the medication management portion of the Joint Commission’s accreditation process.
Driving pharmacy services forward and cultivating a progressive, supportive culture within her team, Karla was named Sanford Bemidji’s Management Employee of the Year in 2016.
Karla was promoted to her previous position of executive director in 2019 with responsibility for med/surg/ortho unit, Women’s and Children’s, Joe Lueken Cancer Center and pharmacy services for the region.
“Karla has been a tremendous asset not only throughout the many challenges of this past year but also when it comes to planning for the health care needs of our region,” shared Susan Jarvis, President and CEO of Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota. “We look forward to all that she will bring to our organization and the surrounding community in her new position.”
