ST. PAUL-The Minnesota Job Honor Awards is accepting nominations for its second annual event, which will take place May 9, in the Twin Cities, hosted by the Minnesota Chamber.

The awards celebrate "A New Kind of Hero," Minnesotans who have overcome significant barriers to employment and the employers who hire them, according to a press release.

Nominations are due Friday, Feb. 16, and can be submitted at

Previous honorees have overcome physical and mental disabilities, criminal convictions and immigrant/refugee status in their struggle for employment. Last year's honoree videos can be viewed at the Job Honors website.

America's Job Honor Awards was founded in Iowa in 2014 and are spreading nationwide.
