BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School girls soccer team is back to its winning ways after suffering its first loss of the season to Moorhead on Thursday, as Lindsey Hildenbrand tallied a hat trick and an assist in a 9-0 shutout of Little Falls on Saturday at Bemidji Middle School. “I think on Thursday, we strayed from our game, the way we played, and today we recovered that,” BHS head coach Logan Larsen said. “... Thursday, as much as we don’t want to lose, it was a good chance to learn.”
BEMIDJI -- The Sauk Rapids-Rice High School football team secured the lead just in time Friday night, securing a 38-37 lead with a touchdown and a two point conversion with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter. Minutes later as the Lumberjacks started their drive to try to retake the lead, the referee signaled a storm delay from midfield. As of now, that's where the game stands.
Bemidji State sophomore Brooklyn Bachmann reads to a group of third graders at Northern Elementary School on Friday afternoon. Bachman and a few other BSU women’s basketball players and coaches read to students to kick off the “Read to the Final Four” competition. The Minneapolis Final Four Local Organizing committee and the NCAA started the reading initiative to promote reading for young people.
MOORHEAD -- The Bemidji High School girls soccer team couldn’t get the offense going in Moorhead on Thursday, and when Spuds junior Lauren Hodny opened the scoring in the 48th minute, the Jacks had no answer and ended up falling 2-0 for their first loss of the season. The Section 8, Class AA Spuds (6-2) largely kept the Lumberjacks (7-1) without quality chances on goal. Bemidji managed seven shots on goal, but Moorhead sophomore keeper Emily Soukup saved every one of them for the shutout.
MOORHEAD -- Two minutes after an Ethan Mock penalty kick goal opened the scoring, senior James Siems scored in his first varsity goal in the 54th minute Thursday to help the Lumberjacks to a 2-0 shutout victory on the road over Moorhead. The first half of the game went scoreless, with Bemidji’s best chance coming in the second minute when Silas Hess headed a shot on goal, but Moorhead goalie Caden Triggs sprawled out to knock it wide of the net.
BEMIDJI -- Just one team will remain undefeated between the Bemidji High School football team and Sauk Rapids-Rice after Friday night’s game at Chet Anderson Stadium, and the Lumberjacks like their chances. Both teams are 2-0 going in, with Bemidji beating Rogers 31-7 and Big Lake 41-0, and SR-R defeating St. Francis 38-35 and Moorhead 24-20.
BEMIDJI -- Out of the gate in the first set, it looked like the Bemidji High School volleyball team would cruise to an easy sweep against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Tuesday night. The Jacks took the first set handily, 25-13, but the Rebels came back hard the rest of the way to take the next three sets 26-24, 25-22, 25-20 and the match.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School girls tennis team won all three of its matches in a home quadrangular on Tuesday at Bemidji High School, beating Detroit Lakes 4-3, Staples-Motley 7-0 and East Grand Forks 5-2. The Lumberjacks (7-5) opened the day against a tough section opponent in Detroit Lakes. Taylor Offerdahl and Savannah Haugen were the first two to finish, with Offerdahl defeating Shelby Busker 6-4, 6-0 at second doubles and Haugen topping Brina Smith 6-3, 6-3.
CROOKSTON -- The Bemidji High School girls soccer team had five sophomores on the scoresheet during the team’s game in Crookston on Tuesday, including a three-goal, two-assist effort from Peyton Oelrich in her first varsity game to lead the Lumberjacks to an 11-0 win over the Pirates. Sophia Morin and Emma Neubeck, also sophomores, scored their first varsity goals, as well. Morin finished with one goal and two assists while Neubeck had two goals.
FERGUS FALLS -- The Bemidji High School soccer team remains undefeated this season after shutting out Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, 4-0, on the road Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls. Jacks junior Alexis Paquette scored the first two goals of the game in the 12th and 24th minutes, with Aliya Berard getting an assist on the first and the second going unassisted.
