BEMIDJI -- Week two of the Bemidji High School football season couldn’t have gone better for the Lumberjacks. After a 35-point first half, Bemidji cruised through the final 24 minutes with one more touchdown to seal a 41-0 shutout over Big Lake in its home opener Friday night – and Senior Night – at Chet Anderson Stadium.
BRAINERD -- Freshman Savannah Haugen had the lone win in the Bemidji High School girls tennis match Thursday, as the Lumberjacks fell 6-1 on the road against Brainerd.
DULUTH -- The bid for an undefeated season came to a close for the Bemidji High School boys soccer team Thursday evening, as the Lumberjacks fell to a 5-1 record on the season with a 4-2 loss to Duluth East. The Greyhounds were on the board in just 16 seconds with a penalty kick goal from Seth Hoffman, and they never relinquished the lead. In the 18th minute, Jacob Bentley doubled the lead to 2-0, where it stayed until the half.
CLOQUET -- Just one goal was needed for the Bemidji High School girls soccer team to steal a win from Cloquet-Carlton on Thursday, as Lindsey Hildenbrand claimed the lone tally for a 1-0 Bemidji shutout. The goal came in the 24th minute, when Hildenbrand took a pass from Alyse Stone, worked her way around a Cloquet defender and squeezed a shot by opposing goalie Graci Meagher.
BEMIDJI -- With a week one victory and some notes from their first game, the Bemidji High School football team has its eyes on Friday’s home opener, where they will host Big Lake at 7 p.m. at Chet Anderson Stadium.
GRAND RAPIDS -- Ethan Mock tripled Grand Rapids’ offensive output himself Tuesday night, leading the Lumberjacks boys soccer team to a 4-1 road win with a hat trick at Grand Rapids High School. It wasn’t Mock who scored the Jacks’ first goal, though. Rather, Aspen Galdamez tallied early with an assist to Silas Hess.
EAST GRAND FORKS -- In a Section 8A title game rematch that had three lead changes, the Bemidji High School claimed the last laugh against East Grand Forks on Tuesday, as Lindsey Hildenbrand’s two goals and one assist led the Lumberjacks to a 4-3 win in EGF. After surrendering the opening goal in the fourth minute – a Chloe Torgerson header off a Riley Regorrah set piece – it seemed like the Jacks (4-0) would head into halftime with a 1-0 deficit.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School girls soccer team hosted Detroit Lakes in a home contest Thursday evening and shut the Lakers out 2-0. “I think we achieved what we set out to achieve,” BHS head coach Logan Larsen said. “Our attack was more diverse. The timing of our runs were better. We weren’t so one-dimensional. Certainly there’s areas to improve, which is good to learn.”
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- The Bemidji High School boys and girls cross country teams got their first look Thursday afternoon at what will be this year’s Section 8AA course in Thief River Falls. “It was our first time ever being up at that course, and it’s the course we’ll run on at sections, so I thought we had a pretty solid day,” BHS head coach Ryan Aylesworth said. The Lumberjack boys finished third as a team with 65 points, while the girls took fourth with 117.
