Canada went out on top early in the first period with a goal by Christian Thomas but the Koreans, playing before another packed house of cheering, hometown fans, were far more ready to play than in their clubbing by the Swiss a day earlier, and Canada found it hard to get their offense in gear after that.
PYEONGCHANG, South Korea—A Russian medalist at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics is suspected of having tested positive for a banned substance, a source at the Games said on Sunday, Feb. 18, in a potential major blow to Russia's efforts to emerge from a drug-cheating scandal. Alexander Krushelnitsky, a bronze-medalist along with his wife in mixed-doubles curling, is suspected of having tested positive for meldonium, the source said. Meldonium increases blood flow which improves exercise capacity in athletes.
PYEONGCHANG, South Korea—Ilya Kovalchuk and Nikolai Prokhorkin each scored twice to earn the Olympic Athletes from Russia a 4-0 win over the U.S. men's ice hockey team on Saturday, Feb. 17, and claim top spot in their preliminary round group. Kovalchuk's two goals came 29 seconds apart on either side of the second intermission. The former NHL all star's first came with one second remaining in the second period and he got his second inside the first 30 seconds of the third, rifling a shot over U.S. goaltender Ryan Zapolski's left shoulder and into the top of the net.
