Darrell Wayne McKenzie, 57, of Glencoe, Minn., formerly of Bemidji, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minn. A celebration of life service was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe with the Rev. Brigit Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery. Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe assisted the family with arrangements. Pallbearers were Mike Becker, Mike Smith, Tim Gallagher, Steve Churchill, Jason Gormley and Nick Weiers.
John Michael Rossi, 90, of Bemidji passed away peace-fully, Monday, January 19, 2009 at in Bemidji. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Arrange-ments are with the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. He was born on February 3, 1918 in Mountain Iron, MN the son of Dominic and Stella (Bartoli) Rossi. After graduating from high school, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, and then attended Eveleth Junior College, where he was an outstanding athlete. John served in the US Army during WWII, and in 1948 earned his teaching degree from St. Cloud State Teachers College.
James H. Ekstrom, 75, of Bemidji, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bethany Free Lutheran Church in Bemidji with Rev. Arlo Feiock officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Cass Lake with military honors by Jack Kimball American Legion Post No. 234 of Cass Lake. He was born Sept. 21, 1933, to Swan and Esther (Anderson) Ekstrom, at home, at the Pike Bay Township family farm. He is the youngest of seven siblings.
Nile Benson, 81, of Blackduck, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at his home. Funeral services are pending with Cease Family Funeral Home in Blackduck.
Jeannette Feeney, 94, of Bemidji, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji. Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji is assisting the family with arrangements.
Glenn G. Olson, 77, of Princeton, Minn., formerly of Bemidji, died on Saturday Jan. 17, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, due to heart troubles. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home Chapel in Princeton. A visitation for friends and family will be held after 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery in Princeton. He was born on Aug. 4, 1931, to the late Edward and Harriet (Turner) Olson in Bemidji. He married Lois Moravic on Dec. 31, 1949, in Bemidji.
Frank Hadrava, age 91, of Bemidji, Minn., passed away peacefully at home with family by his side, Saturday, January 17, 2009. Memorial Services will be held in the spring by the family. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, Minn. Frank Hadrava was born August 10, 1917 in Becida, Minn. to John and Josephine (Kriz) Hadrava. He lived on the home place at Becida and attended Meadowview School. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army during WWII and served in France and Germany and was in the Battle of the Bulge.
Ernest K. Cummings, 75, of Bemidji, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji with the Rev. Ken Mayberry and the Rev. Arlo Feiock officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Meadowview Cemetery in rural Solway with military honors by the VFW Post No. 1260 of Bemidji. Pallbearers will be his six sons. He was born Nov.
Laura Ann (Nyland) Hatten, 42, of Soldotna, Alaska, formerly of Bemidji, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in Soldotna. A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School in Kenai, Alaska. She was born on March 26, 1966, to Darrel and Molly Nyland in Bemidji. She attended school through the ninth grade in Bemidji and then moved to Alaska. She is survived by her daughters, Alison Hatten of North Bend, Ore.
Wayne Anthony Warren, 32, of Ogema, Minn., died suddenly on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at First Care Medical Services in Fosston. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at the White Earth Community Center in White Earth, Minn., with the Rev. Jim Hinson officiating. A visitation began at 5 p.m. Monday and will continue until the time of services. Burial will be in the Warren Family Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be Lyman Lowry, Mike "Stink" Bevins, John Hummingbird, Tim Warren, Ryan Warren, Jeff Potter, Jason Bellanger and Ronnie Warren.
