Dale Compton, 53, of?Tenstrike, is back home following the Monday crash on his ATV. Compton, the chairman of the Blackduck School Board, was injured when his ATV was struck by a deer near his residence on Erdahl Court. He was driving the ATV home when a deer jumped across his path and ran into him, Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp said.
Three summers ago I added a new wildlife-related structure to my ever-growing collection of bluebird, house wren, wood duck and kestrel houses and other nesting structures. I installed a bat house on the utility pole next to my house. I erected the two-foot-tall, black-painted bat house about 12 feet high and hoped that it would soon become occupied by a few bats.

Set in a 1950s diner once again, Evergreen High School's Homecoming banquet has been forced to make a last-minute move from the gym due to the unfortunate flooding caused by a prankster dropping a cherry bomb in the toilet of the boys' locker room.
Carbon monoxide, sometimes referred to as CO, is a colorless, odorless gas produced by burning material containing carbon. Carbon monoxide poisoning can cause brain damage and death. A fact most people don't realize -- carbon monoxide can kill you. Why is this important? Because it's winter in Minnesota and that means local rescue units and ambulance services will go out on calls regarding this extremely dangerous and life threatening problem. Carbon monoxide is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America.

The Blackduck boys basketball team took on the Nevis Tigers Dec. 14, winning 77-68. "This was a great win against Nevis," said Blackduck Head Coach Grant Mistic. "Nevis is a conference favorite and to beat them at their place was great!" Scoring for the Drakes were Trey Volk who put up 23 points and had eight rebounds. Shane Fenske scored 14 points and also had eight rebounds.

Being a mechanic just seemed to come natural to Donald "Dunk" Erickson. After all, he was only six years old when his father opened up the garage in Kelliher. That was back in the 1930s. His father never forced him to work in the garage, "it was just what you did to help out during hard times." "When the Depression hit, the folks moved from central Wisconsin. It was a couple hundred miles east of the cities and that was where I was born," Erickson said. "They pretty much lost everything and moved out to South Dakota because they had shirttail relatives there.
