The winter season isn't even here, but the fall season is in full swing with all the holiday events to be finished before the semester ends with winter concerts at BSU, the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra and the final performance at 2 p.m. of "Fiddler on the Roof," a collaboration of Bemidji Community Theater and the Paul Bunyan Playhouse at the historic Chief Theater in downtown Bemidji. Limited tickets at the door: $12 for adults and $6 for children 17 and younger. Maestro Magnus Martenssen will appear as the First Annual Holiday Showcase today at 3 p.m.

The first week of a very busy November in the arts community begins today with a Wind Ensemble performance at 3 p.m. on the main stage of Bangsberg Fine and Performing Arts Center of Bemidji State University. It's soon "that time of year" to buy your tickets to the 46th Annual Madrigal Dinner, a production of the Department of Music at Bemidji State University. Always the introduction to the Christmas season, this year's event will feature a Renaissance feast once held in English castles, bringing to life the regal pageantry and ceremonial pomp of Merrie Olde England with the Royal Court, minstrels, beggars, cellar keepers, recorder players and a masque (comedic play) while the guests enjoy a five-course dinner.

The Opera Encore HD opens its third season of fine operas and ballets showing at local movie theaters. The first presentation will be "Don Carlos" from the Salzburg Festival with tenor Jonas Kaufmann. The group has added an additional showing this month -- the standard showing at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Bemidji Theatre and the extra showing at 4 p.m. on Oct. 19. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students through high school.
