BEMIDJI -- Recently graduated Bemidji Lumberjacks baseball players Ryan Hirt and Collin Rutledge have signed Letters of Intent to join the BSU program and BSU head coach Tim Bellew is happy to have the left-handed pitches on board. "Collin came onto the scene as a pitcher during the past year and Ryan is a big-game pitcher who is not afraid of the spotlight," Bellew said. "Both Collin and Ryan realize that good things are happening with the BSU program and I think both of them enjoy staying home and having the opportunity to compete at a high level. "Both of them will be great additions.

Hendricks, a former Bemidji Lumberjack, is the current activities director and head football coach at his high school alma mater and he played for Fortier at MSU Moorhead from 1983 through 1986. "Ross was great to play for. So much of what I learned I can attribute to him as my No. 1 mentor," Hendricks said. "Ross was a father figure but he never got very personal with his players.

"I was primarily a singles player in high school but I have played doubles and I actually love playing doubles." Mark Fodness was Bellew's high school coach and he also is in charge of the BSU program.
BEMIDJI -- A gusty wind that swirled seemingly in every direction affected play Monday night when the Bemidji Legion baseball team hosted Nisswa and in the opening game of the doubleheader the visitors took advantage of the breezy conditions to post a 7-4 victory. There was a second game scheduled, but the two teams agreed to call it quits after just four innings of play -- not making it an official game, -- due to incoming weather, according to Bemidji's coach Nate Blumhagen. The strong wind turned a Nisswa fly ball in the third inning of the first game into a 2-run double and the breeze h

BEMIDJI -- It took Bemidji four innings to solve the riddle of Alexandria right-handed pitcher Danny Kuhn but the Legion baseball team's bats eventually came to life. Ryan Hirt's walk to open the home fifth sparked Bemidji to four runs in its final two at-bats and that late surge gave the Legion a 4-1 victory in the opening game of Wednesday's doubleheader at the BSU diamond. In the nightcap Hirt stepped onto the mound and allowed only two runs and one hit over four innings.
