Robert Ray Meier, 80, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Park Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 while visiting friends in Riverside, Calif. He was born on Aug. 27, 1928 in Hutchinson to Walter and Blanche (Benton) Meier. As a boy, he moved with his family to the Akeley, area where he attended public school. As a young man, he farmed with his father. On Aug. 5, 1950 he married Lois Lee Moore at Akeley United Methodist Church. They had a daughter and two sons. In February of 1952, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served his country in a career that spanned 20 years.
Edward Eveatt, 53, of Park Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at his home. He was born April 23, 1955 in Nevada. He moved to Minnesota in the early 1990s. He met Darlene Miller in 1994 and they made their home south of Park Rapids.
Roger Allan Pihlaja, 60, of the Snellman/Ponsford area, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008 at home near Snellman from cancer. He was born Feb. 26, 1948 in Detroit Lakes to Elmer and Rose (Jellum) Pihlaja. He attended Shell Lake Country School near his home through sixth grade then attended junior and senior high school in Frazee through 10th grade. He then attended high school in Park Rapids, where he graduated in 1966. After high school, he worked construction for John Racer and later for a construction company in the Twin Cities. From 1968-70, he served in the U.S. Army.
Roger A. Pihlaja, 60, of Snellman, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008 at his home. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Snellman, with Rev. Ed Behling officiating. An obituary will appear in a future edition of the Enterprise.
Virgil Cummins, 76, of Pelican Rapids, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. He was born July 25, 1932 to Melvin and Leona (Foner) Cummins near Glenwood. He attended school in Sedan and worked on the family farm during his youth. He married Elsie Bowen on Jan. 20, 1951 in Glenwood. They moved to Benson, where he delivered milk for a short time. He worked in produce and later became produce manager at C&H Merchantile (Custer & Hornbacher).
Dr. Del (Delmer) Helgeson, 79, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at his home near Park Rapids. He was born in 1929 in Lansford, N.D., to Henry and Clara Helgeson. They moved to Bottineau, N.D. where Del grew up on a farm. He attended rural schools in Bottineau County and then attended Bottineau High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948 and took his basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky.
Kathryn Lucille Peterson, 77, of Park Rapids, died on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at her home near Park Rapids. She was born on Sept. 3, 1931 in Crawford County, Ark. to Frank and Tenny (Titsworth) Huff. She attended school and graduated from high school at Galena Park, Texas in 1950. She married Richard R. Peterson on June 1, 1956 at Coco Solito, Panama. They lived in Panama until 1957 when they moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. They lived there until 1959. They moved to Germany from 1960 to 1964 before moving to Tampa, Fla.

Marjorie Helen (Chapman) Kaufman, 84, of Park Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids. She was born to Pearl and John Chapman on Dec. 12, 1924 in Marathon, Iowa. On July 15, 1946 she married Robert F.
Michael "Mick" B. Fankhauser, 40, of Lake George, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008. He was born Dec. 19, 1967 in Forest Lake. He attended the Children's Theater Company conservatory school. He had a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and a Doctor of Science degree in social work. He was an EMT, a nurse and taught medical certification classes.
