Daniel Warren Hoff, 73, of Menahga, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at home, following a battle against leukemia. He was born June 10, 1935 in Perley to Paul and Ostine (Ystebo) Hoff. He attended the Perley Elementary School and then went on to attend the Borup Public High School. He graduated in 1953. He then attended Moorhead State College in Moorhead. In 1959 he purchased a farm in Green Valley Township, Becker County, south of Park Rapids. On Sept. 5, 1959 he married Margie Lorraine Cummins at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset.
Solon Anson Green, 83, of Park Rapids, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services. He was born on Feb. 28, 1925 in the family IGA grocery store/home on Main street in Park Rapids. His parents were Charles and Agnes "Peggy" (Larsen) Green. Following his 1943 graduation from Park Rapids High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In the year following his enlistment, he trained in Missouri, Nevada and California and married Harriet Virginia Westlund on Aug. 31, 1944 at the Chapel at March Field in Riverside, Calif.
Harold "Tinker" William Skov, 45, of rural Nimrod, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009. He was born Aug. 11, 1963 to Harold L. Skov and Charlotte Jane (Kielty) in Washington, D.C. while his dad served in the U.S. Marine Corps. At an early age his family moved to Minnesota and lived in International Falls and later rural Nimrod on what became the family farm. He graduated from Sebeka High School in 1981 and joined the National Guard. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant E-5. During that time he worked in the Twin Cities area removing asbestos and doing other construction work.
Andrew "Bud" H. Rangitsch, 67, of Nevis, formerly of Maplewood, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 of complications from cancer. He was a retiree of Waterous Co. after 37 years. He is survived by his wife, Emily; two sons: Robert (Karla) and Michael (Angie); two grandsons; two sisters: Marlene (Jake Mauer) Wardell and Carol (Leonard) Jakeman; a brother, Edward; and many other relatives. Visitation: 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at Mueller Memorial Parkway Chapel, 835 Johnson Parkway at E. 7th St., St. Paul. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb.
Douglas Andrew Amundson, 62, of rural Nimrod, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 in rural Nimrod as a result of a farm accident. He was born to Walter and Loella (Skully) Amundson on March 3, 1946 in Wadena County. He married Ardith Kanzenbach on Feb. 14, 1964. They had five children. He had many various jobs during his lifetime but driving truck always took precedence.
Richard Valentine Nicholas Roussopolous, 82, of Nevis, formerly of St. Paul, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at his home in Crow Wing Lake Township. He was born on Feb. 14, 1927 in St. Paul to Nicholas and Clara (Boelke) Roussopoulos. He attended the Douglas Elementary School through the eighth grade in St. Paul. He went on to attend Humboldt High School. In 1945, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served his country in the Pacific Theatre of WWII as a Seaman lst Class. His military service continued into the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to St.
Harriet Dorothy Wilson, 93, of Menahga, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. She was born March 12, 1915 to Jacob and Julia (Phillops) Vangness in Story City, Iowa. Her family moved to West Concord, Minn. in 1924. At age 16 she went to work for different families. She married Wilfred "Butch" Wilson in 1937. They lived in the West Concord area and then in California where she was a certified welder on ships during WWII. In 1949 they moved to Menahga where they bought a farm. They lived there for three years and sold the farm to Peterson Turkey Farms.
Beatrice Angeline Natzel, 94, of Park Rapids, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. She was born on Aug. 3, 1914 in Baxter Township, Lac qui Parle County, to Peter and Marie (Hanson) Jacobson. She attended school and graduated from high school in Montevideo. She married LeVere Edward Natzel on July 3, 1937 in Montevideo. They lived in Montevideo until 1948 when they moved to Green Bay, Wis. They lived there until 1951 when they were transferred back to Montevideo with the Milwaukee Railroad. In 1965 they moved to Aberdeen, S.D.
Joanne M. (Sitz) Leger, 70, of Big Lake, died Feb. 9, 2009 at her home after a battle against cancer. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Vern; five daughters: Deb (Larry) Christensen, Cyndy (Scott) Huber, Becky (Darryl Lukes) Oines, Molly Leger and Jessie (Tom) Vavra; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her stepson, Jake; an infant son, David; two brothers; two sisters; and her parents, Bernice and Bernie Sitz. Memorial service: Friday, Feb. 13 at St. John Lutheran Church 13045 Fremont Ave NW, Zimmerman. Interment: Private.
Douglas Amundson, 62, of rural Nimrod, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 in rural Nimrod. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Sebeka United Methodist Church. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka and one our prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Interment: West Lyons Cemetery.
