Georgia (Erickson) Hitchcock, age 81, of Wyoming, died Thursday, March 12, 2009. She is survived by five children: Steve (Roberta), Christine Ricehill, Karen (Tom) Nesheim, Keven, and Joel (April); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers in law: Skip Hitchcock, of Wisconsin, and Dick Hitchcock, of Fergus Falls; and two sisters in law: June Terhark and Dorothy Embree, of Park Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband, David. Funeral service: Tuesday, March 17 at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in St. Paul. Interment: Private.
Daryl A. Sells, 74, of Akeley, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, N.D. She was born on Oct. 3, 1934 in Minneapolis to Mark and Anneleise (Ebner) Smith. She attended Ascension Catholic Elementary School in Minneapolis through the eighth grade and then attended North High School, graduating in 1952. In 1954, she married David R. Kalla in Minneapolis. They had six children. The young family made their home in Minneapolis. For a number of years she drove taxi for the Yellow Taxi Co. in Minneapolis.
Laila Harriet Hutchings, 92, of Park Rapids, died Friday, April 3, 2009 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids. She was born on May 8, 1916 in Grant County to Harry and Lillie (Johnson) Stavos. She married Ray Hutchings on July 15, 1937 at Camp Nidos in Ottertail.
Donald Willis Sellin, 74, of Bemidji, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji. He was born June 16, 1934 in Todd County to Louis and Martha (Dehnel) Sellin. The family moved to the Solway area and he graduated from Bemidji High School in 1953. After high school, he married Irene Silverthorn and worked on the Iron Range. They came back to Bemidji and he worked at Gambles. In the spring and summers he would go out to Kentucky and Ohio to help construct airport runways. In 1968 he married Doris Chase in Clarissa.
Frederick Homer Burlingame, 77, of Wadena, died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at home. He was born to Homer and Gladys (Schmaus) Burlingame on May 10, 1931 in Pine Point Township in Becker County. He was raised on the North Ponsford Prairie. He attended grade school at Round Lake Country School and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in April 1951. While in the service he married Diane Larson, of Fertile, on April 6, 1957 in Minneapolis. He served in Japan, Germany and Alaska.
Rose Alvina Gritz, 87, of Park Rapids, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids. She was born July 29, 1921 in Breckenridge to John Rudolph and Rose T. (Svoboda) Mikesh. She was their first child. Her father was a farmer and they lived in Campbell, Minn. and Osnabrock, N.D. She went to school through the eighth grade in Osnabrock and country school. She married Roby Edwand Gritz on Dec. 30, 1942. They lived on a rental farm in Diller, Neb. then moved to Burchard, Neb., before settling in Lincoln, Neb. in the early 1950s.

Virgil "Cob" Lee Fairbanks, 61, of Mahnomen, died Friday, March 27, 2009 at his home in Mahnomen. He was born Sept. 11, 1947 in White Earth to Thomas and Marie (Brunette) Fairbanks. He attended elementary school in Pine Point, high school in Park Rapids, and welding school in Grand Rapids. He moved to Minneapolis, where he utilized his skill of welding at the American Iron Supply Co. for 37 years. He received numerous awards for the artistic sculptures he had welded.
Sharon Marie Sargent, 66, of Stacy, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009. She was born in Hayward, Wis. to Wilber and Lila (Losey) Wood. She and her husband, George "Ed", wintered in Arizona while spending summers in Minnesota. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant. She is survived by her husband; two sons: Brent, of Blaine, and Brian, of Goodridge; a daughter, Debra Wilson, of Indiahoma, Okla.; and seven grandchildren. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m.
