BEMIDJI -- Grinding out a tightly contested victory is always rewarding, but, if you ask the Bemidji High School boys basketball team, a rivalry win over Moorhead is just a little bit sweeter. “Any time we beat Moorhead, it is sweet,” Lumberjacks head coach Travis Peterson said. “Over the years, we’ve had lots of good games with them. In recent history, they’ve gotten the best of us until the last couple years. It’s nice to come out with ‘Ws’ against the Spuds.”
BEMIDJI -- Everything may be different, but nothing is changing for the Bemidji State men’s basketball team Wednesday night. The Beavers are opening their postseason against Augustana, but they’re not shaking anything up while faced with the win-or-go-home matchup.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State women’s basketball team will have one of the toughest tasks in the country on Wednesday. The Beavers (4-22, 3-19 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) are matched with No. 10 Augustana to open up the NSIC Tournament, heading to Sioux Falls, S.D., on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in search of an upset for the ages.
MINOT, N.D. -- On Friday night, the Bemidji State men’s basketball team kept the wheels from falling off and held on for a win over U-Mary. But on Saturday, the Beavers couldn’t replicate the same success, faltering late in an 80-71 loss to Minot State in Minot, N.D.
MINOT, N.D. -- The Beaver Bash turned ugly in a hurry for the Bemidji State women’s basketball team on Saturday. Fueled by a strong push that ended the third quarter, BSU was working back from a 14-point deficit and building its momentum for a fourth-quarter comeback. Instead, however, MiSU scored the first 18 points of final frame, using the five-minute span to turn in a 71-51 win in Minot, N.D.
BISMARCK, N.D. -- The Bemidji State women’s basketball team suffered its 15th straight setback on Friday, falling victim to a 76-41 clobbering against U-Mary in Bismarck, N.D. Late in the first, the Beavers (4-21, 3-18 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) were within a point when Emma Rappe sunk a 3-pointer for an 11-10 score. The Marauders (13-14, 9-12 NSIC) ran off the final seven of the first, however, owning an 18-10 lead after one.
BISMARCK, N.D. -- The Bemidji State men’s basketball team avenged last month’s upset loss to U-Mary with a 67-59 victory in Bismarck, N.D., on Friday behind a dominant finish to clinch the win.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State men’s basketball team is out to prove its progress this weekend. “I feel like we’ve come a long way from the beginning of the season,” sophomore guard Jai’Vionne Green said. “We got better. I feel like we need to show how much better that we’ve gotten, prove it on the court and show everyone.” BSU head coach Mike Boschee sees the development, too.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State women’s basketball team didn’t like how their last matchups went against U-Mary and Minot State. “After the last time we played them, the whole team was really disappointed that we didn’t come out with a win against Mary and Minot, because we believed that we could,” freshman guard Brooklyn Bachmann said. “I think there’s a lot of revenge going into this weekend, thinking that we can win and should have won. The girls are really hyped about that.”
OMAHA, Neb. -- For the majority of the first half on Tuesday, the college basketball world had to wonder, “What if?” Creighton -- a top-tier team in the Big East -- was getting outplayed at home, down double-digits against an unfamiliar school to even most hoops diehards. That opponent? None other than the Bemidji State men’s basketball team.
