BEMIDJI—There will be some "black and blues" music coming to Bemidji when Adam Hammer, Dave Cofell and guest guitarist and songwriter Nathan Ness perform a Folk 'n' Blues Show at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Rail River Folk School. But what exactly is "black and blues" music? Hammer said the origin of that term came when he had a set of songs that didn't fit in with the rest of the material on his 2012 album, "Broken Like You." So he and Cofell (whom he met in 2009 at an open mic event in St. Joseph, Minn.) started a side project to perform that material.
BEMIDJI—The owner of a home in Eckles Township escaped with his life after fire engulfed his house Friday evening. Bemidji Firefighters responded to a house fire at 8:56 p.m. Friday in the 11000 block of state Highway 89, according to a release from the department. The owner of the house told fire officials he heard his smoke detectors go off, and then saw someone pounding on the door to alert him of the fire once he got outside, a fire department employee told the Pioneer on Saturday.
