BEMIDJI -- The weather was perfect Thursday as hundreds came out to BSU for the 12th annual Community Appreciation Day on campus.
A crowd watches the 5-on-5 basketball tournament at Red Lake's annual Motherland Block Party on Saturday. The event, hosted by Thomas X and Baby Shel, featured basketball tournaments, skateboard competitions, a hip hop show, scavenger hunt, drawings and more.
TURTLE RIVER -- Umbrellas dotted the roadsides of U.S. Highway 71 on Saturday in Turtle River as spectators watched a shorter-than-usual parade. Rain and a light drizzle for most of the day cramped some aspects of the 13th Annual Turtle River Day, but for those who did show up, it was a good time.
BEMIDJI -- The fight against aquatic invasive species continues to advance in and around Beltrami County. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources hosted a volunteer training Friday at the Beltrami County Administration building and Beltrami County Environmental Services opened a decontamination station at what DNR officials call the “tree shack” near Target in Bemidji.
Bareback rider Tucker Depew, from Blackduck, holds tight on Friday during the Triple B Rodeo at the Beltrami County Fair. The Tripe B Rodeo will kick off again at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Grandstand.
Kianna Kingbird, 8, dances a fancy shawl dance during the grand entry of the Healing Powwow on Thursday at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. Sanford Bemidji, Red Lake and Cass Lake Indian Health Service Hospitals and the White Earth Health Center hosted the powwow to honor the physicians, health care workers and holistic healers who promote physical, mental and spiritual health.
Theresa Gustafson shows her acrylic painting “Hogwarts is Home” to Colleen Speck, 4-H Crafts and Fine Arts Judge, on Tuesday afternoon at the Beltrami County Fair. Gustafson, a Harry Potter fan, won a blue ribbon for her painting in the Crafts and Fine Arts category. Demonstrations, a pet show and dog showmanship judging will all be held Wednesday for 4-H events at the fair. The carnival Midway, Grandstand and Marilyn Shutter Country Stage all get underway at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Evan Caul, from the Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Club, carries the head of the dragon during the Parade of Teams on Friday at the Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival. Races begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lake Bemidji waterfront. The food court will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the Dragon’s Den will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight with A-List DJ and the Lip Sync Battle from 6 to 10 p.m.
