BEMIDJI -- Once again, the unpredictable “spring” weather in Northern Minnesota has made things difficult for the Bemidji State football team. After spending the entire month of April practicing outdoors,...
BEMIDJI -- The BSU football team entered spring practice still unsure who would be starting at quarterback in the fall. The Beavers still don't have a concrete starter but head coach Jeff Tesch said both main candidates for the job -- sophomore Ryan Shields and Northern Iowa transfer Jordan Hein -- have performed well. Both players will get a final chance to show their skills before next season during today's Green And White Spring Game, scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Chet Anderson Stadium. "If you look on the depth chart for tomorrow, Ryan Shields is No. 1," Tesch said Wednesday.
BEMIDJI -- The changes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association keep on coming. Just two weeks after naming Bill Robertson as its new men's commissioner, the league announced Wednesday afternoon that Aaron Kemp would take over the women's league starting June 1. Kemp, 38, takes over for outgoing commissioner Sarah Martin, who is retiring June 30 after 15 years on the job. "There's a rich tradition of success in the WCHA," Kemp said during a teleconference. "I'm excited and committed to continuing that level of excellence. When I heard Ms.
BEMIDJI — It had been more than two years since the Bemidji State softball team last played a home game. Although BSU played 18 home games in 2012 the Beavers didn't play a single game in Bemidji in 2013, thanks in part to the long cold winter. So Tuesday afternoon's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader was a relief to the Beavers and interim head coach DJ Guinn. "It's nice not traveling somewhere for once," DJ Guinn said. "I get to drive myself home at a reasonable hour tonight, which is nice." And although the Beavers were swept by University of Mary 17-1 and 5-0 i
BEMIDJI -- It took a pair of comeback victories but the BSU baseball team avoided losing at the hands of Minnesota-Crookston in an NSIC doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at the BSU baseball diamond. Cody Eckman's one-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh game BSU a 5-4 walk-off victory in game one; then the Beavers scored three runs in the seventh inning of game two to hold on for a 3-2 win. "They're a better team than their record shows. They've played a lot of close games," BSU head coach Tim Bellew said of the Golden Eagles.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State baseball team needed something positive in game two of their NSIC doubleheader with Concordia-St. Paul. Anyone looking at Concordia's linescore for game one could have surmised just how badly the Beavers wanted to erase that game from their collective memory. The Golden Bears scored 23 runs on 24 hits in a 23-9 victory Saturday afternoon at the BSU baseball diamond. "It was pretty ugly," BSU head coach Tim Bellew said. "They hit the baseball and did a lot of good stuff. You can't take anything away from that, that's a really good team.
BEMIDJI -- After six innings of shutdown pitching Friday afternoon against Concordia-St.
BEMIDJI -- The NCAA's spring signing period began Wednesday, and three BSU teams received commitments from athletes around the country to come play in Bemidji for the 2014-15 school year. The BSU women's basketball, men's golf and volleyball teams each had commitments from two athletes who signed their National Letters of Intent. Senior athletes in many sports -- everything besides football, soccer, field hockey, cross country, track and field and water polo -- can sign anytime between Wednesday and Aug.
MOORHEAD — After spending most of the first month of the spring season practicing and competing indoors, the Bemidji High School track teams finally got some fresh outdoor air this...
BEMIDJI — A pair of pitchers making their first starts of the season combined to give the BSU baseball team a major boost in the Beavers’ home opener. Freshman Derek...
