ALEXANDRIA, Minn.—An Alexandria woman had the trip of a lifetime, winning more than $120,000 while waiting for her plane to take off. Elizabeth Brown was on her way to Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on Jan. 24 when she stopped at Holiday Stationstores in Champlin for coffee and lottery tickets, according to a news release from the Minnesota Lottery. "We wanted to have something to do in the airport while we wait," Brown, who was traveling to Arizona with her significant other, said in the news release.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — The disappearance of Jacob Wetterling has been one of the most talked about cases in Minnesota history. Now it is up to an Alexandria judge to decide if the Wetterling family's request to keep some details of that investigation private is allowed under the state or federal constitution. A hearing Friday, Feb. 2, in Alexandria will lay out arguments in the open records case on the Wetterling investigative file. The ruling by Judge Ann Carrott will set an important precedent for Minnesota criminal cases.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- Three people were arrested in connection with the 15-year-old missing girl from Alexandria who was found Tuesday, Sept. 5, 20 miles away in neighboring Grant County. Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels sent out a news release shortly after 8 p.m. stating that the police department believes releasing the identities of these people could jeopardize the investigation into the disappearance of Jasmine Block on Aug. 8.

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — Weather played a major role in a medical helicopter crash injuring three crew members last month in Alexandria, according to an initial report on the investigation. Further, one expert said the weather conditions were poor, and air ambulance crashes often result in fatalities. In its initial report, the National Transportation Safety Board said clouds were forming below the North Memorial Health Care helicopter before it crashed about 2 a.m. Sept. 17.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- The third drowning death of the summer in Douglas County happened Saturday when a Garfield man fell from a boat on Lake L’Homme Dieu. The body of 29-year-old Brandon Darryl Randt, a mechanic for Alex Auto and Marine, was found at 1:35 p.m. in 24 feet of water. Randt was test driving a new Lund Alaskan aluminum fishing boat for the dealership, where he had worked for nearly six years.
