If the Bemidji State women's hockey team has any hope of making a final push up in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings, this weekend is the time. The Beavers, who are in seventh place in the eight-team league, face off with fifth-place St. Cloud State on Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11, in St. Cloud. Both games are scheduled for 3:07 p.m. faceoffs.
BEMIDJI—Alex Pollock didn't forget. The Bemidji High School senior forward still felt the sting of that epic dagger delivered to his Lumberjacks hockey team last season at the hands of Grand Rapids' Alex Adams. Adams scored the game-winning goal in overtime in last season's Class AA state tournament in St. Paul. "That was always on the back of our minds," Pollock said, referring to Tuesday's rematch with the Thunderhawks at Bemidji Community Arena. "We definitely wanted to get back at them for what happened last year." Matt Fitzgerald didn't forget either.
BEMIDJI -- It took just one minute for the Bemidji State men’s hockey team to show Michigan Tech they meant business on Saturday night. Kyle Bauman’s goal off the rush -- exactly a minute into the game -- seemed to take goaltender Angus Redmond and the rest of the Huskies by surprise. It was just a sign of things to come.
BEMIDJI -- Wisconsin’s dangerous transition game proved deadly for the Bemidji State women’s hockey team. The top-ranked Badgers scored in the first 45 seconds of Friday afternoon's game at the Sanford Center and never looked back, beating the Beavers 6-1 in the first game of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.
BEMIDJI -- Three third-period goals helped the Bemidji State men’s hockey team rally past Michigan Tech on Friday night, helping the first-place Beavers put some much-needed distance on the second-place Huskies in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings. Sophomore winger Mike Soucier scored twice and junior winger Leo Fitzgerald scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the third period as the Beavers beat the Huskies 4-2 at the Sanford Center.
BEMIDJI -- Although they now know that they will not be hosting a home playoff series for the second straight year, the Bemidji State women’s hockey team still knows how important these next six games are. The Beavers (9-14-3, 5-14-3 WCHA) host top-ranked and conference leading Wisconsin (24-2-1, 19-2-1) in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series that will once again test the Beavers.
BEMIDJI -- The last time the Bemidji State men’s hockey team was playing in a series at home this important this late of the season, the Beavers played in a different arena and a different conference.
BEMIDJI—When Zach Whitecloud was going through his college commitment process, he wasn't aware of the Bemidji area's large Native American population or influence. The 6-foot-3 freshman defensemen did know about the hockey at Bemidji State, though.
BEMIDJI—Although it seems counterintuitive, the Bemidji State football coaching staff is beginning to find that increased success and postseason appearances make recruiting both a little bit easier and a little bit harder. The Beavers, coming off a 9-3 season and a Mineral Water Bowl victory for the first time, set numerous school records this fall and were, for the first time in recent history, were playing in the month of December. It left the BSU coaching staff with a mad scramble to finish their recruiting before Wednesday's National Signing Day.
BEMIDJI—Jim Stone values diversity and versatility when it comes to recruiting soccer players. With this year's recruiting class, Bemidji State's head soccer coach got just that. The Beavers on Wednesday announced the signings of seven players who will join the BSU program for the 2017 season.
