BEMIDJI -- Jeff Tesch isn't sure the phrase "quarterback controversy" applies to his Bemidji State football team just yet. "We asked ourselves on the staff if we had a quarterback controversy," Tesch said Thursday. "I think we did last year. But it's not about talent right now.

BEMIDJI -- After struggling through the first two games in their home opener, the Bemidji State volleyball team was determined to find a way to disrupt Minnesota-Crookston's potent offense and stay alive as long as possible in game No.
BEMIDJI -- For a second-straight game, the Bemidji State offense showed flashes of brilliance for a quarter. The problem, of course, is that football games require four quarters of consistent play to have a chance to win. After allowing Sioux Falls to shut them out 24-0 in the first half, the Beavers -- behind backup quarterback Ryan Shields -- scored 19-straight points to make it a game once again. However, the Cougars sealed the deal in the fourth quarter, scoring four touchdowns to rout the Beavers 52-19 in the Shrine Game at Chet Anderson Stadium. "I really don't care how much they sco
BEMIDJI -- Jordan Hein had a fair assessment of his first collegiate start. "You could tell the nerves were going early for me," the Bemidji State quarterback said of last weekend's game against Wayne State, a 35-13 loss. "I mean, I made some dumb throws and didn't go through my reads and keys. But the defense picked me up and helped us get some momentum offensively." Hein, by his own admission, struggled at the start the game.
ROSEVILLE -- The Bemidji High School volleyball team played well at times but couldn't get much going against Roseville. The Lumberjacks fell to the state's No. 5-ranked team in Class AAA in four sets, as the Raiders won 25-14, 25-27, 25-16, 25-9. "There were moments where we played great defense," Bemidji head coach Teresa Colligan said.

The Beavers were swept by both Missouri Western State and Northwest Missouri State in the first day of the two-day showcase tournament. In the morning match the Beavers, now 2-4, fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-13) against Missouri Western.
