BEMIDJI—The Homark Homes Hardwood Showcase is even bigger this year. The second-annual high school basketball event at the Sanford Center will feature nine games with both boys and girls basketball teams from around the area. The event kicks off Friday at the Sanford Center with a 4 p.m. game between Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Sebeka and ends Saturday night with games between the Red Lake and Fosston boys and girls teams. Last year's event featured just six games.

Jesse Hein, BSU's 6-foot-1, 305-pound starting center, snaps the ball to Jordan, BSU's junior quarterback, more than 60 times per game. It's a productive relationship—but they aren't always smiling. "Some people kinda laugh at us," said Jesse. "We disagree sometimes but it's just us communicating. People think we're fighting all the time but we're just trying to get things accomplished."

The Bemidji State men's hockey team is now No. 13 in the USCHO.com poll. The Beavers tied and beat Minnesota State last weekend in Mankato and in the process jumped up from No. 15 in the poll, released Monday. The ranking is the Beavers' highest since 2010. The Beavers have reached as high as No. 4 in the poll, Dec. 12, 2009. BSU also made its debut in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll at No. 15—the first time it cracked that poll since 2010. The Beavers are 9-2-1 overall and 9-0-1- in the WCHA and host Northern Michigan this weekend.
BEMIDJI—Bemidji State's football season is not over. Despite being knocked out of playoff contention with three losses, the Beavers received a nice consolation prize on Sunday: A bid to the Mineral Water Bowl. BSU (8-3) will take on the Washburn University Ichabods on Saturday, Dec. 3, at noon in Excelsior Springs, Mo. The Beavers finished their regular season with a 76-13 rout of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday in Bemidji. The Ichabods went 7-4 and finished in a three-way tie for fourth in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

BEMIDJI—The Bemidji State football team added an exclamation point to its regular season on Saturday afternoon. Junior quarterback Jordan Hein set two BSU scoring records as the Beavers dismantled Minnesota Crookston 76-13 at Chet Anderson Stadium, giving them an 8-3 record—their best finish since 2009. Hein threw for 278 yards and four touchdowns on just 10-for-23 passing, and in the process set BSU's total all-time touchdowns record (with 75) and BSU's all-time passing touchdowns record (with 58).
