BEMIDJI -- Minnesota State’s potent offensive attack was once again no match for the Bemidji State men’s hockey team. BSU junior goaltender Michael Bitzer stopped 26 of 27 shots and Gerry Fitzgerald scored the game-winning goal on a third-period power play as the Beavers beat the Mavericks 2-1 on Friday night at the Sanford Center. It was BSU’s 20th victory of the season, and powered them to their first 20-win campaign since going 23-10-4 in 2009-10.
BEMIDJI -- Just because they clinched the MacNaughton Cup a full two weeks before the end of the regular season doesn’t mean the Bemidji State men’s hockey team won’t be giving it their all this weekend.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State women’s hockey team knows the odds. A No. 7 seed has never defeated a No. 2 seed in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs.
Winning the MacNaughton Cup remains a monumental achievement for the Bemidji State men's hockey team. The Beavers won the Western Collegiate Hockey Association crown—the first in their seven-year history in the league—earlier this month when they beat Alabama Huntsville on Feb. 10. BSU got to claim the historic MacNaughton Cup that night and brought it back home to Bemidji so they could celebrate in style. All that being said: Winning the MacNaughton alone is not enough.
BEMIDJI—After lighting the lamp six times in their 6-1 win over Minnesota State on Friday night, finding the back of the net was much tougher for the Bemidji State women's hockey team in Saturday's series finale. Despite outshooting MSU by a significant margin, the Beavers couldn't solve MSU goalie Chloe Crosby and fell to the Mavericks 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Center—the regular season finale for both teams.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State women’s track and field team hosted its annual Twilight Meet on Friday afternoon at BSU’s Gillett Wellness Center, and the Beavers had several solid finishers. Transfer senior Alexandra Coleman finished second overall in the 400 meter dash, running in a time of 1 minute 0.10 seconds. She also took second in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 9 1/2 inches.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State women’s hockey team kicked off their final home series of the regular season with a bang. The Beavers found some offense in a big way on Friday night, and had plenty of contributions from its senior class in a 6-1 win over Minnesota State Mankato at the Sanford Center.
BEMIDJI -- With one last weekend to go in the regular season, the Bemidji State women’s hockey team wants to finish strong. And although finishing fifth rather than seventh would be ideal for the Beavers, above all they’d prefer to be playing their best hockey as they enter next week’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs.
ST. CLOUD—The Bemidji State women's hockey team needed a win on Saturday if it wanted any hope of catching St. Cloud State in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings. The Beavers accomplished that mission, scoring a pair of goals with less than five minutes left in the game to beat the Huskies 3-1 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—After winning the coveted MacNaughton Cup and clinching their first-ever Western Collegiate Hockey Association title on Friday night, the Bemidji State men's hockey team wasn't able to keep the train rolling and earn their 20th win. The Beavers had a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play, but Alabama Huntsville scored four unanswered goals in the final two periods to win 5-2 and force a split in their WCHA series finale Saturday at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
