ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources state forest nursery is accepting orders for April and May 2017 seedling pickup or delivery. Millions of seedlings will be available for the 2017 spring planting season, including 22 species of native bareroot trees and shrubs. Seedling selection and availability decreases after the first rush of orders in fall.
WOODBURY, Minn. -- A 48-year-old Woodbury, Minn. man has been killed when he lost control of the ATV he was operating on a trail near Danbury in far northwest Wisconsin. Thomas Mertz was ejected from the ATV and pronounced dead at the scene, said the Burnett County Sheriff's Office in a news release on Monday. Wertz had been operating the Arctic Cat ATV about 11 miles northeast of Danbury, when he lost control near a curve on trail 958, said the news release.
BELLE PLAINE, Minn. -- The Minnesota State Patrol is looking for the driver of vehicle who struck and killed a 29-year-old Belle Plaine man on Highway 169 in Belle Plaine about 5:15 a.m. on Sunday. Killed in the hit and run accident was Derek Fath. The make or year of the vehicle that hit Fath is unknown. The State Patrol is asking that anyone with any information should contact the patrol at 651-582-1503.
FARIBAULT, Minn. -- A chain reaction accident on Interstate 35 near Faribault, Minn., on Saturday has taken the life of a 63-year-old Eden Prairie, Minn., man. According to the State Patrol, a Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Chad Gibson, 40, of St. Paul was southbound on the I-35 about 11:45 a.m. when he looked down and when he looked back up he saw traffic was stopped and he was unable to stop as he was traveling at highway speed.
OTTER TAIL COUNTY - A teenage boy is seriously hurt after crashing an ATV here on Sunday, August 14. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department said around 2 p.m., Felvian Renier, 15, of Savage, Minn., went off the road and hit a tree near East Battle Lake. He was not wearing a helmet. Renier was airlifted to a St. Cloud hospital with a serious head injury.

RURAL MAHNOMEN, Minn. – Authorities have identified the names of a man and woman found dead Tuesday, Aug. 9, on a farmstead about 11 miles northeast of Mahnomen. The two were 68-year-old Elizabeth Thompson and 74-year-old Lynn Thompson, the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday, Aug. 10.
BISMARCK – Some lucky player won $25,000 a year for life Monday in North Dakota’s newest lottery game. The winning Lucky for Life ticket was sold at Farmers Union Oil in Drake in north-central North Dakota, the state lottery office reported Tuesday. The player will have the option of taking an annuity payment of $25,000 a year for life – paid for a minimum of 20 years so that the winner’s estate continues to collect if he or she dies – or a lump-sum cash payment of $390,000.
MAHNOMEN, Minn. - Two people were found dead early Tuesday, Aug. 9, on a farmstead about 11 miles northeast of Mahnomen in northwest Minnesota, the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office reported. According to the sheriff’s office, dispatchers received a 911 call about 7:06 a.m. reporting a shooting at the residence. When officers arrived and searched the farmstead, they found a 75-year-old man dead in a Quonset building and a 71-year-old woman dead inside the home. Autopsies are being conducted.
