A 47-year-old man arrested after a high-speed chase in Carlton County last November has pleaded guilty to killing a Michigan woman. Gregory Allen Rose was wanted in connection with the stabbing death of Connie Pajunen, 67, in Midland County, Mich., on Nov. 16 when he led both Minnesota State Patrol troopers and Carlton County sheriff's deputies on a chase that reached speeds of up to 95 mph. He was driving a U.S. government pickup truck at the time, which he allegedly stole over the weekend in Wisconsin.
A Proctor man faces three felony charges after allegedly fleeing Duluth police twice in less than a week earlier this month. Samuel James Nelson, 26, appeared in State District Court in Duluth on Tuesday on two counts of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, and one count of second-degree assault. If convicted on the most serious charge — the assault — he faces up to seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine.
FARGO-- The Fargo Police Department has released two pictures of the suspect in the theft of Roger Maris memorabilia items at West Acres. Police are asking the public to notice the patch on the left shoulder on the shirt/jacket the suspect is wearing; there was not a patch on the right shoulder.
DULUTH, Minn. -- A 35-year-old Duluth man died late Tuesday north of Duluth after a shed had fallen on him. David Szyszkoski was attempting to move the shed, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday. The Sheriff’s Office responded at 10:30 p.m., and Szyszkoski was later pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is under investigation.
MOORHEAD -- A 21-year-old woman was struck by lightning while inside her vehicle Tuesday night at Bluestem Center for the Arts in south Moorhead, home to the Trollwood Performing Arts School. Dispatchers over emergency radio said the woman was consious and alert, but her vehicle, a minivan, was smoking after the strike. Emergency crews are on there way as of 7:30 p.m.
A Duluth man accused of passing fake $20 bills at a Kool-Aid stand in Lake Nebagamon and a rummage sale in Superior was bound over for arraignment in Douglas County Circuit Court last week. Steven Alan Wakefield, 46, faces two felony charges of uttering a forgery. According to the criminal complaint:
A Bayfield County sheriff's deputy who was rescued after his vehicle was swept away by floodwaters two weeks ago has returned to duty. The sheriff's office reported Monday that Deputy David Dawson was back on the job. As previously reported in the News Tribune, Dawson was driving near Grand View in southern Bayfield County on the night of July 11 when his vehicle was swept off a road by the raging waters of a normally small creek, after 8 to 10 inches of rain fell in the region.
DARWIN, Minn. -- The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a woman was pinned between a dump truck and a forklift at a business Monday night. Michele Fjelstad, 53, of Litchfield, was transported to the Meeker Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of injuries, believed to be non life-threatening. The incident happened at 4:30 p.m. Monday, on the 300 block of W. U.S. Highway 12 in Darwin.
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Gov. Mark Dayton announced Tuesday the appointment of Sharon Benson of St. Cloud as the new district court judge in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District. Benson is replacing the Judge Mark Hansen and will be chambered at Fergus Falls in Otter Tail County.
SPICER, Minn. -- A man was robbed outside Zorbaz on Green Lake in Spicer Monday night by two men on long skateboards who claimed to be armed. The incident was reported to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office at 10:45 p.m. Monday. According to the report, two people slammed a man into a car. They claimed to be carrying a gun, and took the man's money.
