MINNEAPOLIS -- Minneapolis animal-control officers caught and euthanized a fox Wednesday morning believed to be the one that bit a woman near Lake Harriet a day earlier, police said. The fox “was showing symptoms associated with rabies,” police said, and will be tested for the disease They cautioned there’s no way to be sure they got the right fox. The woman, who sustained minor injuries from the bite, will be vaccinated.
MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man that was killed early last Friday morning near Mahnomen. Sheriff Doug Krier said foul play is suspected in the death of Jon Rock, 43, of Minneapolis who died from an apparent stab wound to his upper leg in a house south of Mahnomen.. Krier said Rock bled to death. Deputies were called to the scene about 5:25 am. Friday morning after receiving a 911 call. Rock was dead when the law officers arrived.
MINOT, N.D. -- Nine motorcycles have been reported stolen in Minot since July 1, prompting Minot police to urge residents to securely lock up their possessions. Police Investigations Capt. John Klug said the thefts have been taking place at all times of the day and night. He also said some have been stolen without the keys in them. “It appears the suspect or suspects are moving the motorcycles from the immediate area then loading them onto a trailer or removing them by other means,” Klug said.
Duluth police are advising that people planning to attend the Tall Ships Duluth festival later this week prepare for significant traffic congestion in Canal Park and the Bayfront area. The festival grounds will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, with the Parade of Sail — when all the tall ships will enter the harbor under the Aerial Lift Bridge — tentatively scheduled to start at about 1 p.m. and last about 90 minutes.
Two Level 3 predatory sex offenders will be moving to new locations in Crow Wing County. Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl reported Brandon Keith Churchill, 32, will move from a Brainerd address to a residence in the area of Crow Wing County Road 3 and Birchem Circle in Merrifield. Churchill has lived at this residence in the past, so there will be no community notification meeting.
CUSHING—A 28-year-old man was injured Saturday in a tubing crash on Lake Alexander in Cushing. The Morrison County Sheriff's Office reported Cole Johnson of Eden Prairie was riding in a tube being pulled behind a boat driven by friends when he fell off the tube and hit his head on the water. Johnson was knocked unconscious for a short period of time. Johnson was wearing a floatation device at the time of the accident. Johnson was transported to a hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance with unknown injuries.
ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources state forest nursery is accepting orders for April and May 2017 seedling pickup or delivery. Millions of seedlings will be available for the 2017 spring planting season, including 22 species of native bareroot trees and shrubs. Seedling selection and availability decreases after the first rush of orders in fall.
WOODBURY, Minn. -- A 48-year-old Woodbury, Minn. man has been killed when he lost control of the ATV he was operating on a trail near Danbury in far northwest Wisconsin. Thomas Mertz was ejected from the ATV and pronounced dead at the scene, said the Burnett County Sheriff's Office in a news release on Monday. Wertz had been operating the Arctic Cat ATV about 11 miles northeast of Danbury, when he lost control near a curve on trail 958, said the news release.
BELLE PLAINE, Minn. -- The Minnesota State Patrol is looking for the driver of vehicle who struck and killed a 29-year-old Belle Plaine man on Highway 169 in Belle Plaine about 5:15 a.m. on Sunday. Killed in the hit and run accident was Derek Fath. The make or year of the vehicle that hit Fath is unknown. The State Patrol is asking that anyone with any information should contact the patrol at 651-582-1503.
FARIBAULT, Minn. -- A chain reaction accident on Interstate 35 near Faribault, Minn., on Saturday has taken the life of a 63-year-old Eden Prairie, Minn., man. According to the State Patrol, a Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Chad Gibson, 40, of St. Paul was southbound on the I-35 about 11:45 a.m. when he looked down and when he looked back up he saw traffic was stopped and he was unable to stop as he was traveling at highway speed.
