DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- A man and a woman are charged with multiple felonies for allegedly dealing heroin out of their Detroit Lakes motel room. Jermaine Dequinte Henderson, 37, of Minneapolis and Amber Lynn Shaugabay, 24, of Detroit Lakes were allegedly caught with 59 grams of heroin in a safe on a dresser in their motel room. During the search on Nov. 29, officers with the West Central Minnesota Drug and Violent Crime Task Force also found other things associated with drug sales, including $4,099 cash, two digital scales, multiple baggies and a razor blade.
PERHAM, Minn. – A tire store fire in Perham late Tuesday, Dec. 14, prompted firefighters from six communities to respond in an attempt to extinguish the blaze. Sources said a small fire started on the north side of the OK Tire building, which was quickly engulfed in flames.
A family is facing another loss days after they were displaced by an apartment building fire in Hibbing. The rear first-floor apartment at 1610 Third Ave. E. was broken into and wrapped presents underneath the Christmas tree were stolen, along with some clothing, TVs, gaming computers and gaming devices, according to Hibbing Fire Marshal Bryan Fagerstrom.
MOORHEAD—A 19-year-old Barnesville man is charged in Clay County District Court with stealing a handgun from the National Guard armory in Moorhead. According to a court complaint: Moorhead police were called to the armory on Friday, Dec. 9, for a report of a theft. A police officer was directed to a room in the armory where the officer spoke with a suspect, identified in court documents as Shawn D. Halverson, 19.
The barge/tug combo Great Lakes Trader/Joyce L. VanEnkevort arrived in Duluth on Tuesday morning to pick up a load of taconite. It already was carrying a cargo of ice.
A train collided with a UPS truck on Monday afternoon in the town of Hawthorne in Douglas County. Authoroties said no one was injured. The crash between the truck and a Canadian National train happened at about 4 p.m., according to Lt. Chris Hoyt of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
ST. PAUL — Mayor Chris Coleman of St. Paul is running for Minnesota governor. He filed paperwork on Tuesday, Dec. 13, to run in the 2018 election in what is expected to be a crowded Democratic field. Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton has said he will not seek a third term. In the past couple of years, Coleman has traveled the state, getting to know rural residents whose support will be needed for any governor candidate to win.
CHANHASSEN, Minn. — Tim Dorway, principal of Chanhassen High School, was arrested Tuesday morning, Dec. 13, on suspicion of possessing child pornography, the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said. A BCA release said Doway, 44, was arrested after agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed search warrants at Dorway’s home and school. Charges have yet to be filed against Dorway, and the investigation remains active, the release said.
CROOKSTON, Minn. -- A Minneapolis man could spend 30 years behind bars after being charged with raping a woman on bus bound for Grand Forks Friday afternoon.
DULUTH, Minn. -- A 72-year-old Duluth man died of his injuries sustained in a vehicle-pedestrian crash Saturday afternoon in Duluth. Eugene Lloyd Thompson was struck by a vehicle driven by 75-year-old Laverne Walter Bail, also of Duluth, near the corner of Maple Grove Road and Mall Drive shortly after 1 p.m., Duluth police said.
