CROW WING COUNTY -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has confirmed zebra mussels in Lower Cullen Lake and nearby Lake Hubert in Crow Wing County. A resort owner contacted the DNR after finding several zebra mussels on a boat moored at the resort on Lower Cullen Lake. DNR invasive species staff found no other zebra mussels during inspections of adjacent docks and a nearby stream, officials said in a release.
MOORHEAD - Four men have been arrested and are being held in the Clay County Jail on criminal charges tied to a reported home invasion earlier this week in south Moorhead , police said in a news release Thursday, Oct. 20. Those arrested were: Kaahin Mohamud Mudey, 22, Mowalid Muse Hirsi, 31, and Abdishakur Muhumud Banade, 18, all of Moorhead, and Abdiaziz Mohamed Ahmed, 20, of Fargo.
A charging decision is expected Thursday in the fatal shooting of a Duluth man outside a Lincoln Park bar early Tuesday. The shooting was reported shortly after midnight on the 2000 block of West Superior Street. The 47-year-old victim, identified by his girlfriend as Eric Burns, was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
ST. PAUL — More than $452,000 in state disaster relief has been authorized for Renville and Wabasha counties, Gov. Mark Dayton announced Wednesday, Oct. 19. Renville County will receive an estimated $309,525 and Wabasha County will get about $143,295. The money, drawn from the State Disaster Assistance Contingency Account, will be paid reimbursed to those counties from expenses submitted by the counties.
WINONA, Minn. -- The names of the two semi drivers who died in a head-on crash in far southeast Minnesota on Tuesday afternoon have been released. Killed were Michael Kalvig, 47, of Glenville, Minn., and Abdulhafiz Hussein, 37, of Roseville, Minn. Kalvig was driving his Kenworth eastbound on Interstate 90 when it crossed through the median and hit a Freightliner driven by Hussein who was westbound in the other lanes, said the Minnesota State Patrol.
MIDDLE RIVER, Minn. -- A Crow Wing County man has died after his boat capsized on Thief Lake. Richard Sheik, 66, of Pequot Lakes was found about 3:30 p.m. Monday along the south shore of Thief Lake about 13 miles northeast of Middle River, according to a news release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. His body was taken to the Marshall County Medical Examiner’s Office in Grand Forks for an autopsy.
RENVILLE, Minn. — A Crosby man was airlifted after a rollover crash early Tuesday, Oct. 19, northeast of Renville. At 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Thomas Venne, 78, had been driving a 2005 International truck south on the county road, according to the Renville County Sheriff's Office. His truck and trailer drove into the southbound ditch, rolling onto the passenger's side.
ST. PAUL -- Minnesota saw a record-breaking 73,478 voters pre-register online on Monday, Oct. 17, shattering the previous one-day record of nearly 27,000 online voter registrations, according to Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon. The record number includes new registrations and updates to existing registrations, Simon said in a statement released Tuesday, Oct. 18. Tuesday was the last day for Minnesotans to pre-register to vote ahead of the Nov. 8 general election.

MOORHEAD—A Moorhead resident was injured after jumping for a third-floor balcony during an early-morning home invasion on Tuesday, Oct. 18, police say. The home invasion was reported about 3:40 a.m., on Oct. 19, in the 1100 block of Belsly Boulevard, according to a report released by Moorhead police Lt. Tory Jacobson.
