DULUTH, Minn. -- A Duluth woman has died after being struck by a vehicle in the city on Tuesday evening, and authorities said the driver of the vehicle is in custody after allegedly fleeing the scene. The Duluth Police Department reported Wednesday that Susan Legarde-Menz, 60, was struck by the vehicle while walking in the area of Skyline Parkway at Twin Ponds in Duluth at about 6 p.m. Tuesday. She was transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center, where she died from her injuries, police said.

OAK ISLAND, Minn.
Washington County is expected to be the 11th county in the state placed under emergency quarantine after an emerald ash borer was found in a trap at the St. Croix Rest Area. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture announced the likely quarantine Thursday after a follow-up visit to the rest area on Interstate 94 turned up evidence of ash borer activity in a tree near the survey trap.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Charges are expected to be brought against a man in the death of a 3-year-old boy, the Becker County Sheriff said in a statement. Sterling Anderson, 23, was arrested in connection with the child's death on Thursday. Formal charges against Anderson are pending further review by the Becker County Attorney, said Sheriff Todd Glander.

KRLSTAD, Minn. — Crews continue to clean up an estimated 2,000 gallons of used motor oil that spilled when a tanker truck rolled Tuesday night near a railroad crossing on U.S. Highway 59 near Karlstad. The 6,500-gallon tanker, owned by Knife River Materials of Bemidji, Minn., was operated by Jerome Fisher, 57, Bemidji, according to a report from the Kittson County Sheriff's Department. The crash and spill occurred at about 8 p.m.
BELTRAMI, Minn. — A small explosion at a West Central Ag Services granary in Beltrami, sent two men to the hospital this morning, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Emergency services responded to the explosion, which started a fire, at about 8:40 a.m., according to a news release.
