Washington County is expected to be the 11th county in the state placed under emergency quarantine after an emerald ash borer was found in a trap at the St. Croix Rest Area. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture announced the likely quarantine Thursday after a follow-up visit to the rest area on Interstate 94 turned up evidence of ash borer activity in a tree near the survey trap.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Charges are expected to be brought against a man in the death of a 3-year-old boy, the Becker County Sheriff said in a statement. Sterling Anderson, 23, was arrested in connection with the child's death on Thursday. Formal charges against Anderson are pending further review by the Becker County Attorney, said Sheriff Todd Glander.

KRLSTAD, Minn. — Crews continue to clean up an estimated 2,000 gallons of used motor oil that spilled when a tanker truck rolled Tuesday night near a railroad crossing on U.S. Highway 59 near Karlstad. The 6,500-gallon tanker, owned by Knife River Materials of Bemidji, Minn., was operated by Jerome Fisher, 57, Bemidji, according to a report from the Kittson County Sheriff's Department. The crash and spill occurred at about 8 p.m.
BELTRAMI, Minn. — A small explosion at a West Central Ag Services granary in Beltrami, sent two men to the hospital this morning, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Emergency services responded to the explosion, which started a fire, at about 8:40 a.m., according to a news release.

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- An Alexandria man charged with five felony counts for possession of stolen firearms and trying to sell them has pleaded guilty. Kenneth Freeland Jamie Morrow Jr. signed a plea agreement for an incident that occurred in March when Morrow tried selling guns to a confidential informant for the West Central Minnesota Drug and Violent Crime Task Force. A controlled purchase was set up on March 10, where the Douglas County SWAT team arrested three individuals, including Morrow.
DULUTH, Minn. -- A drug trafficking investigation in Superior led to the identification of a Duluth couple as the culprits in a string of northeast Minnesota storage-unit burglaries and the discovery of more than a dozen firearms, authorities said.
GARFIELD, Minn. -- A Garfield man who shot his neighbor’s dog with a pellet gun has had his charge of animal cruelty dismissed by a district court judge. A felony charge against Roger Rosengren was dismissed last week for lack of probable cause.
