VIRGINIA, Minn. — Jesse Lee Bonacci-Koski told police that he left his 11-month old nephew Bentley alone for about two hours last Wednesday morning to go buy drugs, according to charges filed Monday. When Bonacci-Koski returned to the house in Tower, the criminal complaint said, he saw firefighters at the scene and ran off — not yet knowing Bentley Joe Lewis Koski had perished in a house fire.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- A man is dead after he was hit by a train near Detroit Lakes, Minn., over the weekend. The Becker County Sheriff's office said it happened Sunday, August 6 around 5 p.m. one mile north of Detroit Lakes The man was reportedly walking south on the tracks when he was hit. He was pronounced dead on the scene. His name isn't being released pending family notification.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen, injured in Thursday night’s victory against Atlanta, underwent successful surgery on her left hand Friday, Aug. 4, and will be sidelined indefinitely, the team said in a news release. Whalen’s surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester was to repair a fracture of her fifth metacarpal in her left hand. The 14-year veteran has started all 22 games for the Lynx this season, averaging 8 points, 2.5 rebounds and a team-high 4.1 assists per game. The Lynx are scheduled to play at Indiana on Sunday.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- A 7-year-old boy died after he was reported missing in the Mississippi River in a St. Cloud park on Friday afternoon. Authorities were dispatched around noon Aug. 4 to Riverside Park, across the river from St. Cloud State University. Crews in a St. Cloud Fire Department boat found the boy near the shoreline and life-saving efforts began, according to the St. Cloud Police Department’s Twitter account. The boy was then transported to a St. Cloud hospital. The boy was pronounced dead at 12:28 p.m. His identity has not yet been released.

FRANKLIN, Minn. – A rural Renville County man was killed over the weekend when he was run over by a vehicle on his farm southeast of Franklin. According to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, the preliminary investigation indicates Randy Oletzke, 59, died as a result of being run over by a vehicle at the farm residence about four miles southeast of Franklin in south-central Minnesota.
WILLMAR, Minn. – A dog with a boat anchor tied to it was found dead Tuesday morning floating in a central Minnesota lake. The discovery was reported at 8:50 a.m. when the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office got a call that a dead dog was seen floating on Point Lake, several miles north of Willmar.
