MILTONA, Minn. -- A 59-year-old man who died after he was pinned under a tree trunk near Miltona in central Minnesota on Monday has been identified as Larry William Krause. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was called about 1 p.m. Medical personnel responded to the scene north of Lake Irene, they found Krause unresponsive and were not able to resuscitate him.
ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota House has launched a new committee to look into affordable child care. House Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, announced the formation of the committee Tuesday. It will partner with providers and parents to help find solutions for more affordable child care choices for Minnesota families. Rep. Mary Franson, R-Alexandria, will lead the committee.
ROTHSAY, Minn. -- The Wilkin County Sheriff's Department has released two pictures of the suspect's vehicle from an armed robbery last Tuesday at the Farmers State Bank in Rothsay. The suspect is described as a white male. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Wilkin County Sheriff's Department.
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. -- Three Minnesota men face drug charges after authorities seized 2 pounds of methamphetamine that was being trafficked into East Grand Forks from the Mankato area, according to police. Police arrested Brock Lawrence Altringer, 41, of East Grand Forks; Joshua John Blanchard, 31, of Madelia, which is near Mankato; and Robert James Delacruz, 26, of North Mankato on Jan. 11.
WINONA, Minn. -- A college student is dead after being hit by a train over the weekend. Winona State University said student Derek Bute, 26, died early Sunday. The Winona Daily News reports Bute appeared to have fallen on the tracks near the campus about 1:24 a.m. Sunday, according to police reports and the university. He was hit by a Canadian Pacific train.
MOTLEY, Minn. -- After fleeing a traffic stop, a Crookston woman and Bemidji man face felony drug charges after officers found heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana in their car. Both Ashley Ann Thomas, 24, and Billy Dale Vincent, 38, face drug and sale possession charges after being pulled over Thursday afternoon near Motley. After a Minnesota State Patrol trooper made initial contact with with the two on State Highway 64, Thomas drove away and led authorities on a roughly 3-mile chase.
ST. PAUL -- St. Paul will co-star in an extreme sports video with professional snowmobiler Levi LaVallee. Before Red Bull takes over Cathedral Hill with the Crashed Ice World Championship in February, it will turn areas of the city’s downtown into a snowmobile stunt course — including the roof of the City Hall-Courthouse building. Shooting will begin next week and is expected to last six days.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- An East Grand Forks man accused of setting fire to a Somali restaurant in Grand Forks now faces federal charges, but it remains unclear if the attack was a hate crime. Matthew William Gust, 25, was charged with arson, a Class B felony, in Grand Forks District Court after police say he started a fire on Dec. 8 that destroyed Juba Coffee House and Restaurant at 2017 S. Washington St. He was arrested Dec. 14 at a Super 8 Motel in Fosston, Minn.
CROOKSTON, Minn. - A Crookston man knew the victim of a sex crime with which he's been charged, according to a complaint. Enriques Luis Schehr, 30, was charged this week with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13 years old in Polk County District Court.
INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. -- A break-in suspect is dead after a fire that burned a convenience store near International Falls late Wednesday. “We recovered a body from the building and that’s our suspect,” said Koochiching County Sheriff Perryn Hedlund.
