GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. -- An 18-year-old Itasca County man will serve a year in jail and 15 years of supervised probation for his role in the accidental shooting death of his friend last November. Walter Everett Charwood, of Squaw Lake, was sentenced Wednesday in Ninth District Court in Grand Rapids. He had previously pled guilty to felony first-degree manslaughter in the death of 17-year-old Dallas James Graciano.
ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota House unanimously backed a bill Wednesday to increase punishment for drunken drivers charged with a vehicular homicide that occurs within 10 years of another drunken driving offense. The crime would be increased to 15 years in prison from the current 10 years.

ST. PAUL -- Minnesota senators voted 62-3 Monday to make revenge pornography a crime. House action is pending on similar legislation. "This finally provides some relief in law ... for someone who has had private sexual images disseminated without their approval," Sen. Barb Goodwin, D-Columbia Heights, said. Revenge porn is the name given to the situation in which a person makes online posts of pornographic images after a relationship ends, but the bill is broader than that.
OAK PARK HEIGHTS, Minn. -- A Wisconsin man is facing prostitution charges for allegedly trying to hire a 15-year-old boy to engage in sexual contact. Kevin John Towle, 55, of Altoona, Wis., is charged with a felony after Oak Park Heights police received an anonymous call last Thursday from a friend of the alleged victim, who had made plans to meet a man after school. The arrangements called for the boy to receive $200 in exchange for sex.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- Alexandria police chased a 22-year-old Fargo man on foot and through a restaurant before arresting him Monday afternoon. Officers were called to Walmart about 3:45 p.m. for a theft and transaction card fraud. The suspect was reportedly stealing items and attempting to purchase expensive items with a card that didn't belong to him, according to Alexandria police.

PAUL -- Illegal garbage burning—in open fires and burn barrels—is a persistent source of pollution in Minnesota, according to a feature story in the May–June Minnesota Conservation Volunteer magazine. Burning garbage can release toxins into the surrounding air, soil and water, Henry Fisher of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency told the magazine. These toxins often include dioxin, a long-lasting carcinogen that can enter fish, wildlife, farm animals and ultimately humans as it works its way up the food chain.

RED WING, Minn. -- A hiker fell part way down Barn Bluff in Red Wing, but clung to a tree until help arrived. The Red Wing Fire Department received a call at 2:22 p.m. Sunday reporting a person stranded on the bluff, a popular hiking area near the Mississippi River. Firefighters reached the victim in about 10 minutes, Capt. Jim Eppen said in a statement.
WOODBURY, Minn. -- Caught in a sting operation, a Woodbury man is facing two felony charges related to sexual solicitation of a 15-year-old. Miguel Eduardo Delgadillo-Gonzalez, 22, appeared in Washington County District Court Thursday, charged with one count of describing sexual conduct with a child and one count of distributing material that relates to sexual conduct to a child age 15 or younger. He is due back in court May 12.
