HAWLEY, Minn. -- A Fargo woman was in the Clay County Jail Thursday morning, May 26, after she was arrested by Hawley police Wednesday night on suspicion of having fired a gun near the Hawley Elementary School.
CALLAWAY, Minn. -- The propane truck driver who authorities say caused the train crash and derailment in Callaway two months ago is being charged in the incident. According to the complaint filed in Becker County District Court, Biya Abdella Buta, 31, of Mandan, N.D., is being summoned to appear on three charges.
WILLMAR, Minn. -- Willmar Fire Chief Frank Hanson on Wednesday said there will be no further investigation into the cause of a pickup truck fire the night prior that damaged Willmar’s American Legion. The cause of the fire is undetermined, Hanson said. The pickup truck was completely totaled in the fire; the building suffered minor damage that melted one window. No one was in the vehicle at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
RED WING, Minn. -- A Hager City, Wis., man was arrested and is facing formal charges this week after reports of gunfire at a Mississippi River bar on Trenton Island. Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrested 31-year-old Nathan Melstrom, who was allegedly found in possession of a gun, early Sunday. Melstrom was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a firearm while intoxicated, carrying a handgun where alcohol is sold and threats to injure or to accuse of a crime.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The organizer of the Minneapolis Marathon says the 2016 race has been canceled because it couldn’t find an alternative course after the original route was rejected because of a construction project. Team Ortho, the nonprofit organizer of the Minneapolis Marathon, which is not related to the Twin Cities Marathon, says runners will be offered a full refund for the June 5 race and a 25 percent discount on any future races..
VILLARD, Minn. -- A possible tornado was reported by weather spotters in the Villard area of central Minnesota shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday. According to reports on the police scanner, weather watchers were reporting debris, shingles flying off of houses and other property damage in the Lake Amelia area south of Villard. Several trees were also reported down. Villard is in Pope County about 18 miles southeast of Alexandria.
WADENA -- A man is charged with felony drug possession after four pounds of meth was discovered in a package being delivered to a Wadena home. The Wadena County Sheriff's Office received information from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension about a suspicious package that was being mailed from Arizona to a residence in the City of Wadena, Sheriff Michael D. Carr reported.
ST. PAUL -- The number of people killed by fires in Minnesota last year were up nearly 30 percent from 2014 figures, a state Department of Public Safety release said. Fifty-seven people died in fires in Minnesota in 2015, the highest total since 2002, according to numbers released by the State Fire Marshal Division.
CROOKSTON, Minn. -- An East Grand Forks man is facing decades in prison on charges of having sexual contact with an 8-year-old and a 5-year-old. Jesus DeLosSantos, 31, made his first appearance Thursday in Polk County District Court on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, all felonies.
