WORTHINGTON, Minn. -- Allegations of excessive force after a traffic stop in Worthington are the center of a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota. In a news release, the ACLU-MN said it represents Anthony Promvongsa, a Worthington resident stopped in July 2016, in a case filed against Worthington, its police department and the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force.
WILLMAR, Minn. – A 73-year-old Willmar man died Tuesday, Nov. 14, after suffering a medical issue while driving and being involved in a two-vehicle crash at around 3:30 p.m on U.S. Highway 12 East in Willmar. The Willmar Police Department said it is unclear whether the man, identified as Leon Muller, died from the medical issue or from injuries received during the crash. Emergency responders to the scene began CPR on Muller and he was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, where he was pronounced dead.
WALKER, Minn.—A 19-year-old Pine River man, who admitted in Cass County District Court in Walker to sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl, will be on supervised probation for the next 10 years.
VIRGINIA, Minn.—The information from three community members agreed: A staff member at a Virginia facility for vulnerable adults "threw food on the floor and made (four clients) eat it." As a consequence of that and other reported misbehavior, the former employee of Chisholm-based NHS Northstar Specialized Services has been barred from contact with vulnerable adults, according to an investigative memorandum posted this week by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
MENAHGA, Minn. -- Names have been released in the murder-suicide shooting that took place in Menahga in northwest Minnesota early Monday morning, Nov. 13. Michael Callahan, 67 and Carl Albin, 82, both of Menahga, were identified as the two male individuals found dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside the home, according to the Wadena County Sheriff's Office press release.

KINGSTON, R.I.—The Minnesota women's basketball team won its first road game of the season Monday, Nov. 13, beating Rhode Island, 82-60. Kenisha Bell had a double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Bell carried the Gophers in the first half with 13 points and six rebounds. She shot 10-of-18 from the free throw line. Leading just 34-28 at halftime, the Gophers outscored the Rams 48-32 in the second half to pull away.
ST. PAUL — Changes are starting days after two Minnesota legislators were accused of sexual harassment. The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party announced Monday, Nov. 13, that it will require candidates receiving party support to take sexual harassment and workplace conduct training. And Gov. Mark Dayton, who has asked that both lawmakers resign, ordered a review of all state policies on sexual harassment and assault.
OLIVIA, Minn. — A man was found dead in an Olivia residence approximately four hours after police responded to a domestic incident there Monday morning, Nov. 13. A woman and children fled the residence and an Olivia police officer responding to the incident made entry into the house, where a small child was removed. The officer also attempted to make contact with the man with no success, according to the Olivia Police Department.
