DULUTH — It'll be a one-two punch of aerial acrobatic excellence at the 2017 Duluth Air and Aviation Expo. Airshow organizers said Tuesday that the Canadian Forces Snowbirds will join the previously announced U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels for the event, to be held June 3-4 at the Duluth International Airport.
DEERWOOD, Minn. —The Minnesota State Patrol reported a driver died Monday after troopers responded to a crash on Highway 6 near Deerwood in north-central Minnesota.. The crash occurred at 4:08 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Highway 6 and County Road 133, northeast of Placid Lake. A 2001 GMC pickup truck was traveling north on Highway 6 when it went off the road into the west ditch and crashed into a tree before coming to a stop.
PEQUOT LAKES, Minn. --- A 73-year-old Pequot Lakes man, who was injured in a motorcycle crash last month, has died of his injuries. Norman L. Armstrong died Wednesday night at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office. Armstrong was driving a motorcycle that struck another motorcycle about 1:45 p.m Nov. 6 on Highway 18, east of Brainerd. The other motorcyclist was John R. Johnson, 64, of Crosby.
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. -- The city of East Grand Forks hosted an event Tuesday afternoon to honor outgoing Mayor Lynn Stauss and City Council member Craig Buckalew, who both are retiring from city government. Stauss served as mayor for 21 years and helped the city through the devastating Flood of 1997 and the city’s rebuilding efforts. Steve Gander will replace Stauss, who announced in July he would not seek re-election due to health reasons.
CROOKSTON, Minn. -- A Crookston man found guilty of sexually assaulting two young children in Polk County several years ago was sentenced to 37 years in prison Tuesday.
SABIN, Minn. – Thieves took an ATM on a more than 14-mile trip early Monday morning. Overnight, suspects broke into the C-Store in Sabin. They damaged the door frame to get inside and stole cartons of cigarettes. They unbolted the ATM, leaving holes in the ground. Detectives later found the machine abandoned on County Road 9. They're still trying to determine if any money was taken from the ATM.
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Two were injured Monday night in Pennington County after a truck that hit a deer crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- Those with plans to dine at Bello Cucina over the holidays are now in luck, as the restaurant will be reopening a week and a half earlier than anticipated after a burst pipe shut it down last week. According to owner Jason Mueller of Glenwood, the Alexandria restaurant will be open again on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Though repairs on the main bar area are not complete, the two smaller dining rooms and the upstairs bar area will be usable.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Parts of northern Minnesota dropped into the 30s below zero Sunday morning, as a blast of arctic air brought the lowest temperatures of the season so far. But after temperatures in most of the region failed to climb above zero on Sunday, a big warmup is on the way this week: Southwest winds are forecast to help readings climb to near 20 today and perhaps into the 30s on Tuesday.
BRAINERD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State Patrol identified a Brainerd woman as the person killed when a semitrailer and passenger car collided on Business Highway 371 Friday afternoon. Linda K. Marolt, 62, died as a result of the crash reported at 3:15 p.m. at Business Highway 371 and Brent Drive, south of Brainerd, the State Patrol reported. The car Marolt was driving, a 1999 Honda Accord, was totaled. Marolt was wearing a seat belt and the airbag deployed.
