BRAINERD, Minn. -- A child from Crow Wing County in north-central Minnesota has become part of a measles outbreak, the Minnesota Department of Health confirmed Wednesday. An agency spokesperson said one unvaccinated child from Crow Wing County contracted the disease after being exposed to it in a Hennepin County health care facility.
WILLMAR — As a measles outbreak in Minnesota widens, Kandiyohi County health and emergency preparedness officials are urging parents to make sure their children are vaccinated. As of Thursday afternoon, April 27, the Minnesota Department of Health had confirmed 28 cases in Hennepin County and one in Stearns County. All were among children under age 5, most of them unvaccinated.
PARK RAPIDS, Minn. — The death of a 3-year-old girl last week in Hubbard County is under investigation. Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes did not release the name of the child or any other information related to the death. County Attorney Jonathan Frieden said he could only confirm that a 3-year-old child from Hubbard County died on April 20, and state law requires authorities to investigate the matter.

Buchanan County, Iowa - TMZ reports former 'Bachelor' Chris Soules is in jail for allegedly running into a tractor trailer, killing the driver, then driving off. The crash happened in Iowa on Monday, April 24 at 8:20 p.m. TMZ reports 35-year-old Chris was driving a Chevy pickup and rear-ended a John Deere, sending it into the ditch. The driver of the John Deere was taken to the hospital where he later died.
DETROIT LAKES — John and Anne Alexander were always together after 64 years of marriage, rarely doing anything without their spouse at their side. "They were just so close," said their daughter, Nancy Alexander. That's why it wasn't exactly a shock to the family that they died together at Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Anne at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, and John at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, April 20. "I think he wanted her to have her own day and then he had his own day, too," said Kate Anderson, one of the couple's six surviving children.
DULUTH — The Superior Hiking Trail Association has hired a new executive director to lead its work on maintaining, improving and supporting the iconic hiking route along the North Shore. Denny Caneff, who most recently spent 13 years as executive director of the River Alliance of Wisconsin, was hired after a four-month search to replace Gayle Coyer, who stepped down earlier this year after 16 years leading the SHTA. Caneff was selected from more than 70 applicants for the position.
BEMIDJI -- A Breezy Point man who was reported missing Friday night was located in Beltrami County on Saturday afternoon. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office had been seeking the public's help in trying to find Gary Harlan Davis, 75, who was reported missing at 5:53 p.m. Friday by his wife. He was last seen about 5 p.m. Friday driving a pearl-colored 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche north on Highway 6 at County Road 11 north of Crosby.
SPICER, Minn. -- U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson will host a bipartisan legislative forum to discuss the opioid crisis at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center in rural Spicer. State legislators, Sen. Andrew Lang, R-Olivia, and Rep. RED WING, Minn. — Police in Red Wing opened a homicide investigation Tuesday, April 18, after finding a man with a bullet wound dead on a city sidewalk. Officers responded to a report of an unconscious man at 12:06 a.m. to discover the body Dangelo Masterjohn, 27, of Red Wing. The Red Wing Police Department is asking the public to provide tips by calling 651-385-3155 or submitting an anonymous tip to Minnesota Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestoppersmn.org .
