FERTILE, Minn. – A suspect in an early-morning high-speed chase that topped 100 mph was arrested after his vehicle went into a ditch in Norman County, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday, Feb. 27. Aaron Dean Jagol, 27, of Fertile, was arrested and faces several charges in connection with the incident, which started about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office report.
BRAINERD, Minn.—A 23-year-old Brainerd man was charged with attempted murder after allegedly poisoning a 4-month-old baby girl by feeding her antifreeze or de-icing fluids. Jeffrey Ryan Thomas appeared Monday in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd, where he was charged with first-degree attempted murder with premeditation, second-degree attempted murder without premeditation and first-degree assault to cause great bodily harm.
GRAND FORKS -- After a week of hints, it’s official -- Metallica is coming to the region. The band’s WorldWired Tour will play the Alerus Center in Grand Forks on Sept. 8, according to a news release. It’s been almost 30 years since the band played in the city. The heavy metal rock band will also have shows in Minneapolis on Sept. 4, Sioux Falls, S.D., on Sept. 11 and Winnipeg on Sept. 13.
WINGER, MINN.—A body was found after a deadly fire in Winger, Minn., on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8:24 p.m. Crews responded to a fire at a shop at 18354 460th St. S.E. in rural Winger, according to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Officials found two separate fires when they arrived, one in a shop and one in the residence above the address. After the fire was put out a body was discovered in the residence.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The heavy metal band, Metallica, may be planning a performance in Grand Forks, if evidence on social media sites is any indication. The Alerus Center and the band shared the same image on their social media accounts recently. When he was reached for comment Friday, Feb. 23, Riley Simenson, marketing director at the Alerus Center, said, “I can’t confirm or deny that Metallica is going to come to Grand Forks.”
PARK RAPIDS, Minn. — A Friday, Feb. 23, fire destroyed the hotel at a resort near here. Firefighters responded about 5:20 a.m. Friday to Vacationaire Resort, 26333 Icon Drive, between Park Rapids and Itasca State Park. The hotel was fully engulfed in flames by the time they arrived. WDAY-TV reported one man suffered minor burns to his back and feet. The man, who wasn't immediately identified, was taken by ambulance to CHI St.
MAHNOMEN, Minn. — Within 48 hours this past December, White Earth Nation was hit with seven drug overdoses. In the months following, a joint drug court program has received approval from the Minnesota Judicial Council to combat what the tribal government calls an urgent public health crisis. "There is no question that our region is on the front lines of our nation's battle against the abuse of opioids and other drugs," state Ninth Judicial District Judge Anne M. Rasmusson said in a press release Thursday, Feb. 22.
A 31-year-old St. Paul woman died Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Minnesota Highway 61 near Brighton Beach in Duluth. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Courtney Ryan was a passenger in a 2003 Buick Century that was traveling south on Highway 61, approaching Brighton Beach Boulevard, when the vehicle crossed the center line and was struck by a northbound 2013 Lexus RX350 SUV.
CROSBY—Four people were arrested Friday morning following an ongoing investigation into the sale and distribution of narcotics within Crow Wing County. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office reported the Lakes Area Drug Investigative Division executed a search warrant at 7 a.m. at a residence on the 400 block of Fifth Avenue Northeast in Crosby near the Cuyuna Range Elementary School. The four people were arrested on various drug and probation charges and are being held in the Crow Wing County Jail.
