ST. CLOUD, Minn. — For the sixth time this year, a $1 million Powerball ticket was sold in Minnesota. The latest winning ticket, purchased at a Coborn’s in St. Cloud, came during the Nov. 26 drawing, which yielded a winning ticket sold in Tennessee for the $420.9 million jacket. The St. Cloud store will receive a $5,000 winning ticket bonus for selling the million dollar prize.
MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Moorhead school bus driver who is accused of using a racial slur as he abandoned about 20 students in the city's industrial park has been fired, according to the company that employed him.
ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has selected a 20-member advisory committee to provide the agency with feedback and advice on deer management as it develops a statewide deer plan. “These committee members represent a broad range of interests,” said Adam Murkowski, DNR big game program leader. “We’ll use recommendations from the committee and broader public input as we set strategic direction and guiding principles for deer management.”
A popular restaurant that had recently gotten a makeover and new ownership was destroyed Sunday in a fire that local firefighters battled throughout the day. The Fayal Fire Department was called at 6:55 a.m. when passers-by saw smoke coming from Wee-Z’s K&B Drive-In at 7946 Pine Drive along U.S. Highway 53, according to Assistant Fire Chief Scott Smith. The building, owned by Patrick Ziegler, who opened the business in May, was unoccupied at the time.
MOORHEAD -- Moorhead police are investigating an incident in south Moorhead that ended with the death of a male from a gunshot wound. According to a report released by Moorhead Police Lt. Tory Jacobson early Monday, Nov. 28: Officers were called about midnight to an apartment building in the 1900 block of 20th Street South on a report of a physical domestic involving a gun. Once inside the building police set up a perimeter around the suspect’s apartment.
MOORHEAD - A man was killed after being hit by a BNSF train in Moorhead early Saturday, Nov. 26.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — A perfect storm of circumstances last Friday, Nov. 18, created treacherous road conditions in the area – built-up patches of thick ice ruts that are still lingering around Douglas County. It made for bumpy, slippery patches on several roads, including Interstate 94, County Road 82, Highway 29 and several city streets. The patches were so thick and stuck to the surface that snow plows couldn’t scrape them away. Here’s what happened, according to Dave Robley, Douglas County highway engineer:
ELY - Two crashes on icy highways in northeast Minnesota — one on Tuesday afternoon near Littlefork, the other on Wednesday morning near Ely — claimed three lives, the Minnesota State Patrol reported. A tractor-trailer collided with a sport-utility vehicle on an icy highway near Littlefork on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of both occupants of the SUV.
MOORHEAD -- Federal Aviation Administration officials arrived Thursday, Nov. 24, to begin investigating what caused a plane to land in a field near the Moorhead Airport. Emergency crews were dispatched to a field where the privately owned plane had landed around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, just east of Clay County Road 11 near the airport runway. While initial reports of the incident referred to it as a crash, Deputy Mike Trygg with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said that isn’t what happened.
ST. PAUL — A St. Paul Park, Minn., man was identified as the victim of a homicide Sunday in St. Paul, according to police. Thomas Joseph Rivard, 35, was found by authorities about 8 p.m. in an apartment in the 500 block of Aldine Street, St. Paul police said Tuesday. The apartment is northwest of Snelling Avenue and Interstate 94. Rivard was pronounced dead at the scene.
