BRAINERD -- The report received by the Brainerd Police Department on Sunday of a needle found in Halloween candy has been determined to be false. The Brainerd Police Department initially issued an alert on the police department Facebook page that there was a report a child had received Halloween candy with a sewing needle in the candy.
Authorities reported Monday that it appears a 22-year-old University of Minnesota Duluth student found dead in Chester Creek over the weekend slipped and fell from a trail while walking home early Saturday morning. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported that it appears that Kyle Noble, 22, of Baudette, Minn., accidently fell into the deep and rocky Chester Creek ravine near East Eighth Street in Duluth.
FARGO, N.D. - A man sitting in a vehicle in a south Fargo church parking lot shot and killed himself Sunday, according to police. Around 11:20 a.m., a shot was heard in the north parking lot of Olivet Lutheran Church at 1300 University Drive. SWAT team members and firefighters surrounded a red pickup truck in the church parking lot after the shot was heard. Olivet Lutheran Church was evacuated around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after the report of a suicidal man in the area was made. Police closed several streets surrounding the church. Most of them had been opened by 11:45 a.m.
MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- A Moorhead man pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty Thursday after being accused of contributing to the drowning of a deer in September. Steven Timm, 55, entered the plea via a letter his attorney, Jade Rosenfeldt, sent to the judge. The judge granted the request by Rosenfeldt that the letter represent his first court appearance. A pretrial date was set for Dec. 10.
DULUTH, Minn. -- Friends and family members of a Duluth woman missing for nearly two months pleaded with the public Friday to come forward with information as police announced a reward in the case.
VIRGINIA, Minn. -- An Ely police officer has been indicted for allegedly engaging in sexual contact with a girl under the age of 18. Sgt. Jason Allen Carlson, 37, was indicted by a grand jury on one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin announced. The indictment was returned on Oct. 14 and made public Friday when Carlson appeared in State District Court in Virginia for an initial appearance.
WORTHINGTON, Minn -- A Worthington man is facing murder charges in Sioux Falls, S.D., after a stabbing that left one person dead and another injured. Janno Kollay Talla, 31, is being held in the Nobles County Jail in Worthington pending extradition to Sioux Falls.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that a body found on Monday in a Douglas County cornfield was that of Laura Ann Schwendemann, 18, of Starbuck. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office issued a news release Friday afternoon confirming the results. Complete autopsy reports, including a cause of death, are pending, therefore no further information was being released, Sheriff Troy Wolbersen said.
