ST. PAUL -- Minnesotans who receive government-funded medical care can get free tobacco treatment beginning next month. Those on Medical Assistance, Minnesota's version of Medicaid, and MinnesotaCare subsidized insurance are eligible for treatment under changes legislators made earlier this year. The change is that co-pays will no longer be required.
DULUTH, Minn. -- A 19-year-old Duluth man has died from injuries suffered in what police are calling an "unintentional shooting" Sunday in the city's Woodland neighborhood.
ISLE, Minn. — Four members of a Columbia Heights family died and three others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision near Isle and southeast of Mille Lacs Lake on snow-packed Minnesota Highway 65 Saturday afternoon. In all, there were nine people involved in the crash. The family killed were identified as Chris Moe, 45, the driver; his wife Rae Ann, 40; and children Samantha, 14, and Anthony, 12.
BRAINERD -- A 29-year-old Brainerd man faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and stalking stemming from an argument Wednesday at a northeast Brainerd intersection. Joshua David Leibold Fields, 29, Brainerd, appeared in Crow Wing County District Court Thursday after allegedly following a 22-year-old man and brandishing a pistol Wednesday morning.
SUPERIOR, Wis. -- Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen confirmed Monday that he made a Facebook comment referring to President Barack Obama as a Muslim who has "destroyed the fabric of democracy." The full comment, which was posted in response to a photo of First Lady Michelle Obama, reads: "Unbelievable! She and her Muslim partner have destroyed the fabric of democracy that was so very hard fought for!"
BUFFALO, Minn. -- A man was killed when his vehicle struck a tree and caught fire in Wright County on Monday. Cole Jenkins, 27, of Buffalo, died at the scene of the crash, the Wright County Sheriff’s Office reported. The crash happened about 5 a.m. near Maple Lake.
BRAINERD, Minn. -- Dark, cold water flowing from the Nokasippi River into Upper South Long Lake created an unexpected form this weekend--a rotating circle of ice. The ice disc forms as flowing water creates an eddy where ice is forming. The water is more still in the middle of the eddy.
CROOKSTON, Minn. -- Two East Grand Forks, Minn., women were sentenced Monday in Polk County District Court for providing a fentanyl patch that caused the overdose death of a woman in 2014. Shilo Chasity Delorme, 33, received more than 11 years in prison while Haley Lynne-Marie Suedel, 26, was sentenced to more than eight years for the death of Jessika Erickson of Grand Forks, N.D.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- A man was injured this morning when he fell about 30 feet at a construction site on the University of North Dakota Campus. The accident occurred about 8:44 a.m. in the area of Upson 1 and Leonard Hall, where a building expansion project is underway, UND Police Sgt. Danny Weigel said. The worker, whose name and age were not immediately available, was transported to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Two people were jailed in Grand Forks early Monday after a high-speed police chase that started in Grand Forks and ended a few miles west of town. Mary Amber Walls, 23, Grand Forks, the driver of the car, was charged with: reckless endangerment; fleeing in a motor vehicle; driving under the influence; obstruction; and refusing to submit to DUI tests. Craig Alan Parkhurst, 28, Gilby, is charged with fleeing a police officer.
