WARROAD, Minn. - Three people had to be airlifted for treatment at a Grand Forks, N.D., hospital after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Roseau County Roads 5 and 12 late Monday morning, May 29, according to Roseau County Sheriff Steve Gust and the Minnesota State Patrol. Gust, contacted at home, said he did not know the extent of the injuries of those airlifted. He said that those airlifted were among eight American Legion members in a van.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Detroit Lakes police plan to analyze phone records as they investigate to a bomb threat hoax that shut down Wal-Mart on the city’s west edge on Memorial Day as vehicles were backed up along busy U.S. Highway 10. Just after 1 p.m. Monday, the store received a phone call that, according to reports, alleged a bomb threat.
DULUTH — One person was killed and four others were injured in a single-vehicle crash early Monday, May 29, in Solway Township west of Duluth. Alcohol is believed to be a factor and charges are possible against the driver, authorities said. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of Canosia and West Arrowhead roads at about 3:50 a.m. A vehicle with five occupants left the roadway and overturned, authorities said.
MOORHEAD, Minn. — A 43-year-old Moorhead man was arrested after two teens reported being beaten a shovel and brick early Monday, May 29. Police arrested Jerome Walker, who was booked into jail on suspicion of two second-degree assault charges. Officers were dispatched for an assault report at 1:39 a.m. in south Moorhead. According to a news release, officers stopped one vehicle and the occupants — including Walker — said they had been at the location of the assault. At the scene, officers found male victims ages 18 and 16.
LINO LAKES, Minn. — An inmate who escaped with eight others after a transport van carrying prisoners was taken over early Friday was caught late in the afternoon on a Minneapolis bridge. James Douglas Mitchell, 26, was the last of the nine to be captured according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections. He was found on a bridge over Interstate 35 at about 4:25 p.m.

WASHINGTON — Members of Congress representing North Dakota and Minnesota broke along partisan lines in their reactions to the report released this week forecasting the impact of a health care reform bill passed by Republicans in the U.S. House. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office report, released Wednesday, May 24, estimated that the American Health Care Act passed May 4 would leave an additional 23 million without health insurance by 2026, compared to the existing law.
MOORHEAD, Minn. — A former employee of a Moorhead restaurant is accused of secretly filming women and at least one girl in the Moorhead restaurant's bathroom. Sam Thomas Hagen, 18, of Moorhead made his first appearance in Clay County District Court on Wednesday, May 24. He faces a felony charge of interfering with the privacy of a minor, as well as four misdemeanor counts of interfering with privacy.
BISMARCK — Two men were arrested after their truck was pulled over Sunday, May 21, on Interstate 94, and 59 pounds of marijuana and several plants were found inside, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported. The driver, Hoanglong Nguyen, 30, Boston, and passenger Cuong Dao, 34, Spokane, Wash., were both arrested and jailed in the Morton County Jail in Mandan, Lt. Steven Fischer said Tuesday.
TWO HARBORS, MINN. -- The trial for a Hibbing truck driver accused of criminal vehicular homicide in a crash that killed the Silver Bay mayor’s son has been postponed until October. John Ray Carpenter, 60, was set to stand trial next month in the 2015 death of Andrew Johnson, who was killed when his pickup truck was struck head-on by Carpenter’s septic tanker in October 2015.
